Jumped off a cliff, got over my mid life crisis, traded in my 2016 M4 & bought a 2022 X3 M40i. Love at first drive, it has tons of room, the interior is gorgeous, handles like a dream…..for three weeks. Until this past weekend when it threw up three different Check Control messages (pictures are attached) and then became difficult to steer. Immediately called roadside assistance who arranged a flat bed, dealer brought me a loaner while they checked it out. Turns out it is “an internal issue with a module that works with the transfer case.” I’m gutted. Dealer has ordered the module, looking at 2 weeks at least for shipping. Has anyone else experienced this? Pardon my stupidity but is this a major issue that I’m going to be dealing with for the life of the vehicle? Appreciate any feedback or insight.

(I should add, also invested $2k in it to have all paint, windows, wheels ceramic coated & the windows tinted).

I know it won't bring you comfort, but it's like my dad said when our Mastercraft wouldn't run right when I was a kid-
It might run like crap, but damn it looks good!!

Don't think I would sweat it just yet. Let's see if the repair goes smoothly and hopefully you'll be back in 'er in no time at all.

Agreed. I had a brand new Jeep Wrangler that had a similar issue on the way home from the dealer and had to go back in for repairs. It ended up being a bad wire on one of the harnesses. Fixed and was fine for the remainder of my ownership. I'm sure you will be fine after the repair, but I understand how frustrating it is to have this happen on a new car.

EDIT: Also if you are concerned, just keep track of the amount of time it is in the shop. I'm not sure on your state's lemon law criteria, but if it ends up being a repeat issue, you can probably have the vehicle replaced. But I really don't think it will come to that.

I wouldnt be too worried mate. its just annoying that the thing is new and youve had that initial excitement of driving it. Things like this happen all the time.

On another note, it looks fantastic is sophisto grey - got any other pics? im tossing up between a facelift and pre facelift atm

Its a Module that BMW gets from a vender. The defect is with the vender not really the Cars fault. Its more bad luck for you rather than a bad vehicle with future problems. I would bet you going to be good for rest of time.

I actually did have a similar situation with my car last year. Approximately 3 weeks after I picked it up. The bad thing was that my messages eventually disabled my car when I pulled over and I could not move it. Thankfully I had gotten off a bridge already and turned a block away before pulling over. The feelings I had seeing a flatbed tow my 3+ week old car away... And it was on a Saturday afternoon and I wasn't able to get a loaner.

You can see my elation turn to sadness in this thread.... with pictures.

I didn't have to wait that long - just a few days but I'm not going to lie - I get an occasional error every now and then and it frightens me. lol So, hang in there and you'll get your baby back in no time. It bothered me a lot being it was not even a month, but whatever.

Back in 2014 I took delivery of a new 5 series touring.

After picking the car up, I noticed the gear changes were very clunky (comfort / auto mode).

Took the car back to the dealership the next morning and it went into limp mode on the way to the dealership. After some diagnostics they told me it needed a new gearbox - in less than 10 miles / 24 hours!

My point? It was fixed within a few days and never had a single problem with the car after that, same for yours.

I believe they are gloss black but since I haven't seen it in 5 days.....I'd have to look to tell you for sure.
