FDL coding lets you change settings on the car like stop,,/start or Alpina dials. It's basically just changing setting the car is pre set to by BMW.

To add speed limit info you need FSC codes these then need importing into the cars settings to activate things the car didn't come with.

speed limit and actual speed are 2 different things.

speed limit is the actual road speed limit on street, hightway ect

what op is looking for is the digital speed callout "XXmph"

Sorry, I probably wasn’t clear,

I know what FDL codes are, and how to apply them ( I have many times )

I was asking what the specific parameters that need changing in the FDL to get the digital speed to display on the cluster l.

Hi Cricketer

My UK June 2018 X3 GO1 went into the garage for some work, which included a software update, last November and for various reasons was in and out of the dealers several times until January this year. My dealer leant me several X3s all of which had the small digital speedo next to the cruise control. When I got my own vehicle back the small digital speedo had gone, but like you I was initially unsure if it had ever been there and maybe I was getting confused.
My dealer re installed the software on my vehicle and a couple of other X3s which had the small digital speedo and it disappeared on all of them.
BMW Germany eventually provided revised software in summer this year and the digital speedo reappeared in the centre between the two large dials.
Unfortunately although being set to MPH in the iDrive where it works fine until the engine is turned off and it then reverts to KPH, which is no use in UK. My dealer and I are awaiting BMW Germany providing new software.

Hello,
Is it possible to change the speedometer to digital even when in Comfort mode? At the moment I can only see the digital speed numbers when in Sport mode.
Anyone know?
Many thanks
Kind regards

QQ on this topic, does the G01/2019/2020 version of the X3 come as standard with full digitial display?

Seen various X3's that have the gauge/speedometer plastic around it. I'm looking to get an X3 but the dealer has not posted any pics yet, i want to be sure it has the full digital display before putting deposit down. welcome your help!

Technically you would call it KOMBI High. There are 2 options I believe for 2019 vehicles. KOMBI High with instruments in full digital including digital needles and the metal rims in the instrument cluster. Then you have KOMBI Low with analog dials and instruments with only a digital rectangle screen on the bottom. For 2020 there's idrive 7 (live cockpit pro with full digital dash) and there's also vehicles with a lower instrument cluster, I believe similar to that of KOMBI high for 2019. I think I've only seen one 2020 with no Full digital dash and I forget exactly what elements of the KOMBI were digital and analog.

Thanks, but in ordering guide you just find digital cluster, not KOMBI :D From a user point of view, both are fully digital. It's just the rings and layout that makes them different.

Also bear in mind it's the build date that's important. I have seen so many cars (uk) advatised rightly as 2020 cars but are the 19 spec with no id7 or live cockpit display.

Easy enough here in the UK to spot quickly from the first photo as we have gloss kidney surround on 2020 build and not grey, also body coloured mirrors not grey.

I saw a June 2020 registered car that was still a 2019 build up for sale last week.

A June 2020 registered car that is a 2019 build should not exist...they were supposed to be registered before WLTP regs came in or be crushed! It's illegal to register a pre-WLTP car once the regs became law. Maybe they found a loophole?

I'll try and find it if it's still for sale.

Couldn't find the June one (likely story Billy) but here's some March 2020 cars with idrive 6 and old binacle dash.
I'm guessing March is ok for the rule mentioned above????

I used Bimmercode and activated the digital speedometer. Is basically the one used for KM/H but changed to MPH. It displays the speed in the middle. There are two options in Bimmercode, one is the digital speed in the middle, and the other is by toggling the BC button as one of the options.

If you want a none coding solution , set all the options in the sport individual configuration to "comfort", then select that driving mode.

You get comfort mode but with the large number speedo

That only works when you have the digital instrument cluster. Some of us have the basic analog speedometer.

Hello,

I am new to posting in forums like this - although I have found them really useful - so please forgive incorrect use of terminology and any ignorance on my part.

I bought an X3 (G01) which was registered in March 2018. It wasn't brand new but only had 170 miles on the clock. Now, I am sure that in the instrument cluster I had a digital display of the actual speed (small and in white). It wasn't part of the DS display (in that when you pressed the DS button to cycle through the options it remained) and was located close to the cruise control / speed limiter displays. It wasn't the big display of speed that I have seen in, I presume, newer models.

Recently I had to take the car in for a reset / update of the transmission settings. Shortly after getting it back I noticed that there was nothing in the DS display and so had to go into My Vehicle settings to reactivate the information displayed. However, the digital speed display has also disappeared and there are no settings (according to the manual they should be in the 'Display' section of 'My Vehicle' if you have the functionality) to reactivate it.

BMW Genius was stumped and I am now beginning to doubt myself as to whether it was there at all. So my questions are;

1. Has anyone else got the small white digital speed display in the instrument cluster?
2. Has anyone else had it and lost it and been able to get it back - if so how?
3. Has anyone lost it through a transmission reset (which is a known issue apparently).

I am going to ask the service department at BMW what they did when sorting the re-setting the transmission and if they have any idea but thought I would try and see whether anyone on here has had any experience of the issue. Feel free to tell me if I have imagined it, otherwise any assistance greatly received!

Thank you.
Hi, sorry to open up this topic again. I have the same issue, have you managed to sort out?

I have used BimmerCode to code my 2018 with Idrive 6 to start in Sport Individual. I’ve also coded to have the MPH digital on my instrument cluster. No mater what mode I’m driving in I still get the small speed displayed above the needle of my speedomete in my cluster.I can now in Sports mode have it show up digitally in three different spots. Picture attached .
