I have copied the new software update on a USB but when I insert it in the USB slot in the car which is in the handrest, it says USB is not compatible. I called my dealer and they charge a ridiculous sum of $700 to update the software. Can someone please help me? Is there a specific brand of USB that I have to use or is there a trick to installing the update?

Maybe you are not aware of this yet : The X3 / X4 from april 2016 will have a new user interface, similar to the Serie 7 but without touch screen or gesture.

That's why i have the idea to try to update it. We will see in a few months.

I cannot understand your message. Please be specific. I am looking for tips or advice on how to update the software myself instead of spending a lot of money.

There are/were some issues with different manufactures USB sticks. I had that problem with my F31 320d but have not encountered it with my current F25. My car is a September build 2013. BMW said they were not able to guarantee compatibility with all USB sticks coming onto the market.

You should be using a 32gb USB stick formatted to fat32 for map updates. I routinely successfully update my NBT maps as soon as they are released. I have never tried anything larger than 32gb.

I suggest you try another USB stick manufacturer.

I used the service to update my maps on my 2015 X3 to the 2016-1 maps. All went fine except that I now have a somewhat unreliable GPS.
For example, I will be driving down I5 using a route. Every few minutes, the GPS location showing where I am shifts off the road to a few hundred feet left or right of where I am. The route then changes to get me back to I5. This happens regularly now. It never happened before the map update.
Any thoughts?

No, I never hear of such thing before. Does this happen only along I5, or other Routes do it too?

Shawn, it happens many places. I did have an aftermarket rear camera added about the same time. It was done by a company that is well respected and a Bimmertech authorized installer. I suppose they could have done something that affected it.

Well, just for good measure, I would reinstall the map. You can also try loading older 2015 map, and see if it does same thing.
