Hello,

Just got a '22 X3 M Sport and looking to get the windows tinted. My prev car had F1 Pinnacle 35 (front/rear, nothing on windshield) and am looking to get the same on this car, except adding 80+ on windshield this time.

Reading some of the posts here, it looks like tinting causes excessive auto dimming of Live Cockpit Pro, making it difficult to see anything.

Is this still an issue on '22 models?

I don't mind going to 40-50 for the tint if it helps minimize the dimming.

Thanks!

My MY21 has 15% with 35% windshield, no issues with the digital cluster (might be because it doesn't include the full iDrive 7 camera/sensors.) And there is no issues with any self driving features! Hope that helps:thumbsup:

If I could do it again, I would barely tint the already factory tinted windows with heat rejecting (ceramic?) ~60-70% VLT, and choose a VLT% for the front side windows to match the darkness of the others. Maybe 35% at the very darkest. And nothing on the windshield.

I got ceramic legal in NC (35%) on the front doors. It's just enough. Love it. My digital cluster is very sensitive especially in the morning or sunset with the sun being weird. I don't think the tint caused it. Lol

I am curious about this too.

I have never had any issues getting ceramic tinting done on previous vehicles; reading about the random interface dimming & ambient lighting issues post-tinting on the X3 makes me slightly cautious about doing it on this vehicle.

My 2022 X3 has the Live Cockpit Pro cluster, I am assuming the interior light sensor that screws with the dimming is in the same location with this package as previous model years? I guess I can take a look at the car tonight to see where it is at.

Post some pictures ? That’s my usual go to setup.

Has anyone had a shop test the back windows ? I’m curious how dark they are from the factory. I’m going to just tint my front windows to match and maybe do the windshield. I usually do 15% on all windows and 35% on the front windshield

Here is my Supra for reference. Probably too dark for the average person. But inside it’s not dark at all if you get good tint.

I had a shop test the back windows yesterday and they claimed 20%. I am kind of skeptical of that number. I don't think they are that dark.

When I had mine tinted, I also had them check the back window and I saw the reading showing 23% for what it's worth.

Interesting,I appreciate it. I’m going to have mine tested and report back. You guys are at 20/23% which is pretty close. I have the rear shades which I should probably drop down. But they look dark with the shade up lol - I only drove the truck twice so far since I bought it

I had my 2019 tinted recently - Autobahn Black Ceramic - no issues. Tech/owner noted low 20'ish% on rear and back seats so I matched to the same on front and windshield sunstrip.

I would have gone lighter or no tint had I know that a 60k car in 2021 can't handle something as common as front windows getting tinted. GeRmAn EnGiNeeRinG

How dark did you go on your tint? Just curious as obviously you have/are experiencing dimming issues post-tint.

I am just trying to figure out a "reasonable" baseline to minimize issues with interior light sensor dimming. I don't mind it being a little more sensitive in certain scenarios, but would like to try to avoid constant frustrations.

My tint guy explained something very confusing about tints, something along the lines of if you count 0% as a number or not, so 15% and 20% are the same???:search:

Nothing crazy, I just matched the front tint to the rear factory tint. This bad ass car can't handle it though and I'm running my whole dash on night mode most of the time.

I agree! Good tint is not dark at all, ceramic works great!

Just got it done. Front at 20% to match the back.
Up close the back seem a little darker maybe because of all the light coming from front windshield.

I just had my tint done today as well. All ceramic, 70% windshield, 50% added to the rears and 25% on the front.

One comment my tinter made when I picked it up was "absolutely no windex ever" or other ammonia-based window cleaners. Anyone have a recommendation for an alternative cleaner? Now I am paranoid about taking it to hand wash car wash or detailer.

So if I tint the front so they just match the rears I am going to be running night display? If so, how totally fucking annoying. That is a non-starter.

There are quite a few brands that are safe for tinted windows. Check out the labels or other info. Invisible Glass is a popular one but there are others.
