Do not want. Just more models to have to certify and develop, that won't sell well. I wish they would rather develop a new engine or custom state of tune. How many models now offer the 2.0L N20 in some form?

How are they going to increase sales by offering this? What is the compelling business case to offer this model to customers who weren't already just going to get a BMW anyway, and most likely a 3GT/X3/328xiT with a solid amount of options for the same price anyway? If the customer simply wants this in order to be "different" from the sea of F30's out there in SoCal, the F31 and 3GT are already rare enough.

Make fewer, better models and instead of spending development money on variants, spend it on more thorough testing and quality controls. I drove an F31 and didn't get the sense it was built as well as the E91 i used to have.

You must truly hate your wife. I suggest divorce her and save the money on a better car for yourself. Lol.
You're assumption might be funny to you, but clearly not even close.

Terrible....why a x4, and not a x7??? Makes more sense...
Because an x7 would cost more, and cheaper cars sell more.

If the door lock button is on the door now, then what's the button that replaces it in between the AC vents?

There's always somebody out there. This was the same argument when the X5, X3 and ultimately the X6 were introduced.

I think people need to start to get it out of their head that BMW can build more focused cars like Porsche while trying to compete with Mercedes and Audi. No way is that in any way possible. The auto industry has changed a lot and quickly since the days of the E46 and E39. In order to reduce costs, volume is the only way to go for BMW. And if you think a large amount of resources went into these cars, you've totally missed the point and purpose of why BMW is doing what they're doing.

Ok, valid points. I just feel that at some point, "there's always somebody out there" becomes an issue of ever-diminishing returns with each additional X model to get those additional somebodies. They must have done the math to feel that the net increase in customers would be worth the additional dev, marketing, education, training, certification costs.

I like it. Its certainly better proportioned than the x6.

Too bad it will be competing with that menacing Macan.

This is too conservative, not the type of wow when we first seen the X6 few years ago. This is like a facelifted mini X6.

I hope they'll do something more aggressive for upcoming X6.

Everyone said the X6 was going to be a failure. While that may be true if you're just looking at the total number of sales, you can bet BMW made a ton of money. Low development and manufacturing costs and charge a $5-7k premium over the X5 for what is essentially the same car with a different shell. You don't need to be a mathematician to see the huge monetary benefits BMW is reaping.

Spot on.
And obviously, when they can tweak an X5 into a X6, and beeing succseful about it, the X4 was always going to show up eventually.
The macan is pretty much like the X4, remember Porsche isn't Porsche anymore.
It's VAG/Porsche.
So the macan is a rebadget Q5 with some tweaks, and a couple of VAG diesel's.
That's porche for you these days.
So stop whining about BMW and how theyr changed, it's happening all over.
If you don't like the X4, don't buy it.
I'd love to see a comparison from chris harris on the macan vs X4.
Over here, the macan cost 15% more than the X4, and doesn't offer an entry level solution like X-drive 20d.
Personaly i like the LCI X3 better than the X4.

Overall, I like it! If I was in the market for something like this, I would take a hard look at it at least.

I know a lot will be comparing this to the Macan, but Porsche's options are usually pretty ridiculous, even more so than BMW and Mercedes. It'll be interesting to see these compared with similar packages. It seems the X4 comes with some nice standard features already.

Bring on the X4M :D

So what your saying is BMW saved Red for the X4 and choose blue and gold for the m3/m4. Makes perfect sense.

The X6 is far from failure.
X6 exceed initial projections of first two years sales by selling twice initial projection of 80,000 units instead of projected 40,000 units.
This is significant because X6 is a low volume niche model.

The X6's success is why competitors are in the final stages of development of their Sport Activity Coupe model because initially expected as the largest market for the X6- The US is actually the fifth largest market.
Its success in China and Russia , Brazil and the Middle East is why manufactures are pushing forward their competitors.

Now we bring the X4 again ahead of our competitors.
