Very nice and the muscular stance really transforms the car

What wheels are those, please?

Any issues with the ride quality?

Theses are BMW 311 Doppelspeiche wheels with 12mm spacers
http://www.bmw.de/de/de/owners/current_offers/sommer_wheels/overview.html

Ride quality is fine. Only a little difference to my 19 inch winter wheels. (a bit harder)

Nice rims, plenty of sidewalk lookers I am sure....

.....a guy I know owns an Audi dealer and 18 months ago he set up a 'wheel refurb service'. Many of his customers who bought new Audi's with 19 & 20" rims have, within 12 months kerb'd them or damaged them on the road. The dealership now makes a mint skimming, colour and lacquering damaged wheels. This market was simply not invented a few years ago....

....I heard another story that the tyre companies push 19 & 20" to the car producers knowing they will get higher margin business from the vehicle owners upon renewal or premature replacement from road damage compared to smaller sizes...

Anyone know if these are valid points?

Never heard about that story!
Regarding damages it depends on the driver, not the wheels!!!
I never had problems with that because I take care of my car/wheels...

HEY guys X3 are great to drive!! We have done 20,000km in three months. Only put 20 inch wheels on your car if you only want to look at it rather than drive it.

Your tyre will cost more!

Your tyres will wear out quicker! even had a BMW salesman say that he has seen the bloody things worn out at 10,000km!!

The ride will deteriate, but that won't matter if you only want to look at your car!

18 inch for driving anything bigger for just looking at it!!

:confused2

It is all down to personal perference. Some like it hard and others like it soft :D. You can't generalize like you do.

I drive 19" with the Dynamic Damper Control. This is perfect. My wife likes the soft feeling of the comfort setting, and I use the sport setting when I'm driving it. I really like the extra edge you get from the roads and the steady cornering you can do with big wheels and stiff dampers.

I would really like to test the X3 with 20" and DDC to feel the difference.
