Poll: Ethanol - yea or nay?
Back in the olden days (like 5 years ago) I had it beaten into my head that the corn fuel was bad for cars (bad on the rubber, etc). since then, I've avoided ethanol like Madonna avoids good taste or self-awareness.
BUT....curious. Anyone out here risk it? What is the current thinking on the a-MAIZE-ing fuel? (get it? get it? heh. heh. heh. ) Is it still bad? Was it ever? (I ask because 'round here, if I avoid ethanol I am largely stuck at 91 octane. To get the 93 or 94 I need to go with an ethanol fuel.....) (and i'll leave out all the economic/food costing issues with subsidizing corn crops for Midwest farmers (who hate the gubberment...I mean, not the subsidizing part, the OTHER parts....). this is purely about the chemistry and physics on our cars.

My GT-R always runs on E85 and I did an E35 mix on my M235i. Haven't tried it on the M3 yet though, but don't see why I shouldn't :P.

The whole anti ethonal myth was pushed by the petroleum industry and combined with a lack of knowledge it really took off. No car made in the last 15+ years has any issues with ethonal in the fuel.

I agree with this statement and all the fuel components in the newer cars should at least be able to handle an ethanol mix. |

San Diego has three E85 stations pretty well located. For me at least. I used a mix in my 335i with JB4 and full E85 in my GTR. Hate using pump gas. It just doesn't feel close to the same. I see poeple voted no. Wonder what their reasoning is? |

F- ethanol.
I wished there was pure gas 93 octane around here. that being said, ethanol additives isn't going away anytime soon.
