I got to know this through folk at Bimmercode. At first I don’t believe until I met up with a buddy and read his car which have 32x also, and wow, I can’t read also.

Right know is wait for 2 week until Bimmercode to push update before I can code it.

But again the vam_opener and close where set as active prior changing the module already. So I wondering is I still need to code it or not.
OTAs do not just happen without the driver initiating it. Also, the latest OTA being pushed out is 07/22.58. 11/22.44 is being done at the dealer.

I thought so too. But folks at Bimmercode check my log that I sent to them and informed me that my bdc was updated hence the Bimmercode was not able to read the module. I wasn’t convinced until I mean my buddy who car manufacturer just 2 day away from my. I am only convinced after reading the car using my Bimmercode and the VAM module was not found.

PS. My software was 11/2022.43 when I first read the VAM on 21st January. On 28 January, the Vam was not found.

The folks at Bimmercode inform me that they will push for an update within the next two weeks. So for now I just need to wait and see.

Does your vo has 32x?

Ok. Yours have 32x. Saw it from another thread.

By the way was yours

BDC_BODY: VAM_SMART_OPENER
BDC_BODY: VAM_ENABLE_SMART_CLOSE

Not active or active when you first read before coding?

Thank you njw1967, spangle1980, and kevinm03 for helping me work up the courage to do this "mod".

I have a couple of notes that may be helpful for future DIYers.

My local BMW parts guy said he got "a bunch of these in" because there was a service bulletin for vehicles that were supposed to have the smart opener, but didn't. He actually said "recall", but that doesn't sound right to me.

He checked my VIN to see if I fell into the group that could get the module installed for free. I did not.

But, have your parts department or service department check for you. You never know.

The four underside bolts that need removing are 10mm on my X3.

Pay attention to the two outer plugs, making sure you plug the same colored wires into the same spot as the original dummy module. They look like they can be swapped, but I wouldn't chance it.

Lastly, no VO coding for me. I used Bimmercode and made the three changes provided by kevinm03.

For reference, I have a week 26-build 2022 X3 m40i.

4.12.0-10942. It was updated on 8 February. I am on a andriod version. So happy when I get it work. I check the connection 3000 times to make sure I did connect it right as I was unable to read the after I change the module. But things are good now. I have just place an order for another module to help my buddy to retrofit.

Say yeah to no more touching the dirty tailgate to open and close. Haha.

So after a quick investigation today it looks like mine has also been equipped with all the hardware.

Just to double check, part numbers I should be looking for are 61355a3f3e8 or 61355a562d6 ?

Seem like it a562d6 should be the latest part. Both should be able to use. Good luck.

Hi everyone,

I was hoping for some help with this.

I've got the module installed (gen 2.5 as recommended) on my June 2021 build M340ix with 32X (the process seems the same as the X3 and I've been using this great thread as a reference).

I've tried VO coding and also using Bimmercode but can't get it to work

The option shows up in the head unit but I keep getting error code 804178 Evaluation electronics, contact-free tailgate opening: Parameterization faulty.

Any ideas what this code means and how to fix it?

Thanks

Hi everyone,

Worked out the solution to my problem. I had a gen 2 module that I had accidentally purchased. I thought I'd give it a try just in case as nothing else had worked so far. Surprisingly as soon as the new module went in the hands-free tailgate opening worked immediately.

Go figure

Hi all,
My car has just updated its software OTA to version 11/22.60

I kind of knew it would remove my coding for the tailgate smart opener, so I plugged Bimmercode in and tried to search in BDC for VAM_Enable_Smart_Close and VAM_Smart_Opener and now they are not there ?
I can see MGU Backdoor_SMO_Installed but not the required code in BDC

Im using IOS Bimmercade app version 4.2 which is latest version

Any ideas guys ?

Oh f**k. I wonder if a support request to Bimmercode would work, like helmetbox was on 11/22 update and the app didn't work then they updated to ANDROID.

Please say you're not using Android ;-). It could be they have not pushed the update to iOS yet, Android is a different version to iOS? His above was 4.12 when they pushed a new update, and at that time iOS v4.2 (and still is).
