Oh sh!t, haven't they heard of "If it ain't broken, don't fix it"? I hope they don't touch mine. Like you indicated, it can be a domino effect.

I don't really notice the problem, but I'm going in for my 12-month inspection and figure I might as well have the latest and greatest firmware. Hard to believe it's been a year already! |

I remember reading somewhere that this fix is "officially" to fix a shifting/acceleration delay when slowing down to slow speed of 3 - 10 mph and then trying to accelerate from this slow speed. This is just one of the symptoms of the throttle lag when pulling away from a stop. Maybe the "official" symptom there are stating the update is for is more of a safety issue then just pulling away smoothly from a stop. Either way, both issues are fixed with the update.

A lag off the line I can deal with.
What I can't deal with is a low speed throttle-up lag. Here's the scenario that I am presented with: T intersection, I have a stop sign, two way traffic in front of me, passing to both my left and right. My view to the left is clear. My view to the right is obscured by tall bushes. I come to a full stop at the stop sign. I creep forward at 2-3mph, to the point where my vision to the right is 80-90%. I look left, look right, look left, and all looks good, and decide to commit. As I do so, I look right one last time and a headlight appears. I have the choice of stabbing the brake or the gas pedal. If I stab the brake then my nose is in the street in front of me. I stab the gas pedal, and am presented with a throttle lag. Now I have two headlights on my right. and closer oncoming traffic. That's an example of Throttle Lag that I can't deal with. |

WOW!
Quite an improvement! I also noticed that the steering was a bit "lighter" feeling. Oh ya, noting mentioned on the window regulator. Last edited by Radioactive; 05-19-2012 at 03:05 PM.. |

I just had the update this week, and I feel a significant improvement. Much better throttle response off the line and at low speed. I go through a traffic circle every day, and it will be a much less stressful process from now on. It was tough to be smooth before the update, now it feels fine.
Overall, this makes the car much more enjoyable to drive. Now, if they could just make the steering feel more like BMWs used to feel.....

I took my Z4 in for service today and asked about the SIB-02-12 and they told me it did not have enough digits to be an SI code on their system.
In Australia anyway. Are there any other numbers on your service records or is there an official name for the SI?

Thanks Beyu. I showed them the full 6 digits, but only typed 4 in my post. The SA said they need more digits than 6.

In Post #9 on this thread http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=677604 there are PDFs attached. The post refers to them as SI B24 02 12 Delay in Engine Response and SI B24 04 12 Idle Fluctuation after a Cold Engine Start Perhaps there is something in the PDFs that they can reference.

Hello walendvay,
Congratulations on the upgrade! A quick quesiton: what's the engine in your X3 28i? My 11 28i was equipped with N52 and SIB seems only mentioned N52T and N55. Thanks. Quote:

I have checked www.automd.com and can't locate this Service Bulletin. I have also my local BMW dealer and they are not aware of this either. Would you mind point me to the right direction? Thank you all.
