Is distance a factor? Delivery charge is flat at $995, but the real cost to transport the car from BMW plant in SC to different dealerships varies a lot.
Of course level of competition is still maybe the No.1 factor I think, which explains why SoCal dealerships give good discount. |

I think it is safe to say that my local dealers would not be terribly interested in taking delivery of a car purchased from another dealer :-) |

Expect to do some work though in the form of VIN verification etc., that may require you to take your vehicle to DMV depending on your state's laws and mailing the paperwork back for registration to process. If you are shipping it from the dealer, expect anywhere between $500 to $1500 depending on distance, for an open trailer. Covered trailers usually cost a bit more. Hope this helps. |

Thanks all. Hopefully I'll be able to reach an acceptable deal locally. Knowing my options may even help that along. I like the M40i enough to go the extra mile to find a workable deal if necessary. Fingers crossed!

Thanks. Passport has some listed on there website for more off. I just don't know if the listed price includes incentives or not.

Kyle Harrell and Will Sheen are two people I have worked with. Nice dealer that is still family owned and the owner is actually there!

I have seen a lot of posts here suggesting dealers should be able to do better than X% off MSRP before incentives. I'm wondering where this comes from. Invoice seems to be somewhere around 6% below MSRP. Now I know dealers also get bonus money from BMW depending on how many cars they sell each month. But how much per car?
My question is at what point does a dealer truly not make money on a deal? Where else are they making their money? I guess they get some kickback from the financing? How about if they are not marking up the MF on a lease - do they still get money from finance for that? I just want to be as prepared as possible for the inevitable BS I'm likely to be fed while trying to finalize pricing... |

Passport had a nicely equipped black/cognac that I almost bought but Sterling ended up offering the same percentage discount so going with the X3 I ordered was an easy decision. I just checked the Passport website and the same X3 is still there and is now almost $8k more. I guess it's Feb. 1 though. Good luck....

Anyone have anything more specific about BMW? One question that has really been banging around in my noggin is how are excess miles handled at the end of a lease? I know there is a per-mile charge per the lease terms, but I'm wondering if a dealer has the option to waive that at no cost to them. On my last lease termination my dealer did waive the excess miles but there was some equity in the car so for all I know the dealer just paid the mileage fee to BMW. I would love to know exactly how that works though.... |

Yes. I confirmed with a couple dealers. I also heard loyalty is still $1500. Must go through BMWFS.
