Greatest under $40 mod for our cars 😀

Super easy to install too. In reality not sure how much benefit it provides but pushing fresh air into the intake duct is always a plus.

Thank you for the good video content as per usual!

Devil's advocate - when hitting that area with a direct volume of water, be it driving during a heavy rain event or spraying with a pressure washer while cleaning, it seems that there would be greater opportunity for water to find its way to the outside of the air filter. Maybe there are enough corners to turn that it's a non issue?

I wonder also if adding a scoop like this will lead to higher accumulation of dirt / grit / debris in the bottom of the airbox, and ultimately more of the same stuck to the outboard side of the filter?

For sure I will monitor. Our OEM in take box has a drain hole in the bottom and also a pressurized spring gate. I wonder if that opens to remove unwanted things. I will monitor also for dirt and such.

To me its not different than running an RK intake without a filter cover.

Another reason I plan to stick with stock filter vs K&N etc as they dont filter as much dust to allow more flow.

Curious to see what you find!
Also worth noting that the stock filter has that thin sheet of foam batting glued to the outside, I suppose to act as a pre-filter for any major debris.

There was someone on the forum designing something like this. Is this the same vendor?

No idea to be honest as the car is not tuned.

Main reason I removed the MST intake is because I started getting a strange misfire at idle. Reverting to the stock box removed it completely. It is possible that using different style intake requires a tune?

From the s550 mustang world if you changed the intake you needed a tune. Not sure if the same applies for our cars.

Answer to the advocate lol:

The same water is hitting the opening area with no scoop at lower volume compared to having the scoop. It is impossible for hard rain to hydrolock an engine when cruising during hard rain with the scoop. There is channels and drain sections on the oem box. Yes the filter will get dirty slightly faster(negible). No debri wil get inside if you have a good filter.

I ran the same air scoop for over 15k miles. On the stock filter, with the cts intake and back to the stock intake with k&n drop in. Lots of rain falls, dust environment, winter salt fog, touchless car washes etc etc.

I can report no damage whatsoever to the intake tract, turbo blades or increased oil consumption.

Im now in the testing phases with the front mount intake.

Overall good questions and concerns SteveYem

I didn’t noticed while cruising long term any drop in temperature. Our intake temperature sensor is right there next to the engine bay and it gets really hot where it is cause of the turbo and exhaust manifold.
