Seems the exhaust has an internal baffle that came lose and is causing a loud rattle on start up and when the throttle is hit. They are in the process of sending the axel back part of the exhaust under warranty. Between the tips being scratched and now the lose baffle, I’m ready to get this exhaust dialed in so I can enjoy it finally. Just glad Dinan is standing behind this and replacing it.

Wonder why your brake lights stayed lit after you executed that launch. Is that normal?

It appears that the issue with the Dinan exhaust is more significant than initially anticipated. Dinan has decided to halt sales of this exhaust model until they can thoroughly investigate and address the problems related to broken welds and rattling caused by faulty internal baffles.

If you currently have this exhaust installed, I strongly encourage you to check for any rattling. If you notice this issue, please contact Dinan immediately, as they need to determine the extent of the problem and how many units are affected.

Personally, I have experienced two defective units and am now awaiting a replacement that Dinan assures me has been fixed. I am also in discussions with them regarding compensation for the inconvenience and the fact that I have had to accept a “fixed” exhaust rather than waiting until April for their new models to be released.

For anyone considering purchasing this exhaust, I highly recommend holding off until these issues are fully resolved and the new models become available.

How long did it take for the issue to show up? I've barely driven my X3 lately, I don't think I've even gone through a tank of gas with the new exhaust installed.

I would recommend going underneath the exhaust and check see the video I posted below.

Shame. Does this seem like an issue of poor quality control or more of an issue of bad parts/manufacturing defect?

Not excited to hear that having just ordered last week. Might have to contact the Canadian retailer I ordered (hasn’t shipped) for their thoughts on this. Don’t really wanna deal with fixing this over n over. Preference probably woulda been the mad exhaust but can’t find it in Canada.

bad manufacturing on the internal exhaust, otherwise built as well as previous DINAN products. The thing I appreciate is that they will make it right. They just sent me the third replacement and assumed me they fixed the issues on this one and went through all the concerns and this one should be bullet proof now! we shall see, install is Monday

I bought this exhaust on 12/6 for my girlfriends 2021 M40i. It’s not installed yet so I called Dinan today to ask about the issue. He said I was the second person who reached out and said this issue was fixed months ago and he’s not sure where the information is coming from. So I guess we’ll have it installed and see what happens.

I emailed my vendor about this and here’s what they had to say:

——-
I personally called and talked to my Dinan rep to see what's going on with this system because I would not want you to have a bunch of issues once you installed it. He had good news for me.

There was a "stop-sale" on this catback a while back due to issues with rattling and something with the tips. The problems have been solved so the catback is back on the market. My rep did assure me that he was aware of 1 customer that had rattling issues. I think that's the same customer that posted on the forums. From the hundreds of units sold, there were only 1 or 2 units impacted by this issue.

I also raised the concern that I don't want my customer paying for installation and running into issues. Even if Dinan covers the warranty, I don't want my customer to pay twice for labour. He told me to tell you to just bang on the muffler when you unbox it. There should be no rattles on the muffler when you bang it with your hands. If there are no rattles, you are good to install. If there are rattles (there shouldn't be since 99% of the units are not affected), Dinan will send a new muffler BEFORE you install.
——-

Some parts sound potentially downplayed but otherwise optimistic. I won’t receive mine until end of next week (super optimistic). Fingers crossed.

yea thats not very accurate information for your "DINAN REP", as they only made 48 set of each, Chrome and black tip sets. To this date they have only sold a 2 dozen units and 3 were to me out of the 24. Dinan confirmed the issues is only with the black tipped units as they have stopped shipping them on their site. It now states "Estimated Ship Date: Coming Soon". Hope you all dont run into the same issues I have been having.

Not the case as I have been dealing with this for the past 4 weeks and have DINAN email threads confirming it. I'm sure they don't want to hurt future orders or have others notice the issues and open warranty claims. I hope yours works as it should without issues!

Thank you. I’m going to give the muffler a couple smacks and see if I hear any rattles.

These numbers are accurate. When I called to order on December 6th he said there were 47 on the shelf with the black tips. Sounds like I was the second person to buy it.

Received and installed. No obvious trouble with install or obvious rattles (said mechanic). My mechanic took a video for me. I haven't got to drive much, but in the very limited driving I've done, it's significantly louder than stock with the AA downpipe. Burbles are pretty intense. I initially wanted the MAD exhaust cause it was a little more aggressive sounding based on clips I found online. Currently probably satisfied I stayed with this as it's wild enough. Below aren't great comparisons, but it's what I have for those of you debating like I was.

Dinan Exhaust, AA Downpipe and a custom tune:
https://youtube.com/shorts/gvgsPgSWVFs?feature=share

Stock w/AA Downpipe and probably 93 Stage 1 OTS tune:
https://youtube.com/shorts/Rt5yP7ZGpKE

Stock with probably a 93 stage 1 OTS and lame revs in my parkade trying not to annoy everyone:
https://youtube.com/shorts/POljWFCTAzU

Haven't really had a chance to stare at the back and debate if i like the quad vs square exhausts.
