At this point even if I were going to the dealer for service, I’m not asking them to update as there’s nothing I want added and definitely don’t want to lose my ASS memory.

Our X3 hadn’t been driven for a couple of weeks, but I got notified about the update when I took it out today, both as an in-car and phone notification. Here’s what you get if you don’t use the app to download the update. It goes directly to the car OTA and you’re notified that it’ll take longer for the download. I’m not in a hurry to install it, so I’ll just let the car do the download.

Updated today, no issues, but takes forever...I also can't notice any major difference at the glance.

The only thing I noticed was the re-emergence of the Power Meter vs the Tachometer, and most of my coding being gone. Haven't tried to see if starting to manually lower the hatch will engage the close function. Not even sure where I read that bit about the hatch, but it's sticking in my mind.

I was trying yesterday on my LCI mild hybrid but yep it looks like ASS can no longer be coded off with the 2023.03 version.

An alternative method would be to just patch that one area of code if the programming tools allow that. The trick with that would be if the amount of code to patch reading the adjustment is "bigger" than the logic that ignores the adjustment. Then you have to insert logic to jump around the code, etc. A third trick might be that they've left a hidden enable bit in there somewhere that needs to be recoded. Depending upon how deep the update code checks for the condition of the code on the module I could see this deep-sixing an OTA update, and then explaining to the dealership what happened. I wish I knew more about the internals of their software. but this should be interesting. |

Depends on how the software is written. I am assuming it used to be something like:
if (ASS is turned on) then do ASS. If they changed it to remove that if-statement then we are screwed and there's really no way around it without changing the software itself.

This is being felt across all models it seems. Something promising here but I wouldn’t consider it verified yet: https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...8#post30363338

That's the simplest scenario and the hardest to get around I would think.

This was the first time (bought 11/21) I've ever gotten an OTA update. I was shocked, frankly.
Only took a few minutes to download and transfer to the vehicle. Activated the upgrade when I got home, and fifteen minutes later it was good to go. Couldn't have been easier. |

I updated last night. Pretty simple but I did need to add the Wi-Fi connection from the car to the cell phone.
I have no codes loaded, so that was not a worry for me. Some of my standard settings did revert back (remote start not being checked). Seeing one made me have to walk through them all. There were some others but dont remember them. I did have one oddity. The outside temperature display was reading 99+. It was nowhere near that hot. If it does not return to normal on the next drive, I will see what they say when I take it in for the yearly service next month. |

I ended up just doing the update myself and actually everything went smoothly. Once the software loads onto My BMW you jump in the car, let the phone and car talk and the upload begins. I just sat in the car and got some work done while the upload ran. It took about 30 minutes. The only thing I noticed is I had to reselect preconditioning to reactivate remote start. Otherwise I don’t see or feel any changes or improvements which is pretty anti climatic. I was hoping for at least something new and interesting but nope nothing.
On a side note, had my oil changed yesterday. BMW checked the engine, suspension, exhaust and everything looks good. So far so good at 15K miles. Good job BMW….something I don’t often say

A very nice addition is when scrolling through the Phone Contacts in CarPlay, scrolling quickly activates a quick Alphabet search (A->B->C, etc.) instead of scrolling through each individual person (which is like watching paint dry).
Anyone else notice that? |

That maneuver goes back to the click wheel iPods. Sure it’s new? Besides, isn’t CarPlay programming dependent on the iPhone? I’m on iOS 17 beta and there’s some noticeable changes now.
