6P1 WI-FI Functions Delete - Update Thread
Hi All,
There are lots in this group who now have 6P1 in their spec list. With Wi-Fi functions deleted “temporarily”. Most have dealer promises of an over the air update that will eventually re instate the Wi-Fi feature and in turn, the apple car play setup. Interested to hear views on when this update might happen and conversations being had with dealers. |

Usual schedule for larger iDrive software updates is 3 times a year at he end of March/July/November.
So eventually it might be included in the March update. If not, you may need to wait until the July update. I read somewhere it said "somewhere around May" but that was a best guess. Also OTA is not simultaneoulsy to the dealer release and most of the time 2 month behind. So if it comes out, I would not wait until the OTA is available but get it installed at the dealer. |

That doesn't relate to the defect code showing on the recall. The code on your recall is for a RAM retrofit, same code as I had.

I would specifically ask BMW UK Customer Service if there is a "Delivery Stop" relating to the defect code shown. Here's what they told me when I emailed the CEO - "Having looked on our system with the VIN you've provided, there's a delivery stop on your car, There's a technical campaign for the receiver audio module............ Your vehicle is currently waiting to be reworked and have a RAM module fitted before delivery can be arranged.... We're are currently unable to confirm as expected delivery date" |

Well, it's not in the first two releases of the 22/03 istep (520 and 530), but one would imagine there's also enabling FSC codes they need to push . I emailed them this week asking for more clarity

There seems to be a lot of confusion over this from BMW, dealers and customers. I'm not convinced that anybody really knows what is going on. Some are suggesting that this will be done OTA, and others are saying that a dealer visit will be needed to enable the wi-fi. I feel fortunate that I am not affected.
One person has suggested a rollout on 19th May. However, in post #66, a UK resident has been told by their dealer that the rollout will start at the end of June / early July. In the UK alone, BMW sells an average of 10k vehicles per month through 150 dealers. That's about 70 vehicles per dealer. 6P1 has been discussed since before Xmas. If a dealer update is required, each dealer may have to update 300+ vehicles (assuming this affects the whole range of vehicles). That is in addition to their normal workload. I'm not convinced this will be completed this month! |

Also the OTA update appears only possible for cars that have had the software update done by their dealer as part of the recall. |

I would imagine that there will be an active campaign starting around that date for other vehicles. In the meantime, you can always try to get an appointment with your dealer this week. the new ista will bring back wifi, just show them that PDF on the thread as the campaign to get the booking |
