I was LITERALLY just about to give up then pulled harder apart the diffuser and f-cking voila. There lies not only the unit but I can now see the antenna sneakily hiding in some dark forbidden place. I'm stunned.

Next step is getting the module out to check it - I couldn't slide it easily - did you guys pry it out somehow? What I can see from where I am is the electrical plugs going into the module. I don't want to snap anything prying - so just interested in how you slid it out.

NEVER GIVE UP :-)

For others who are following this, it;s literally behind the area where the towing eye pop-out is (at least for RHD car anyhow).

Right
If you look at the end that points into the bumper skin there is a plastic tang that clicks the mounting lug it into place, the other end is in a slot in the plastic bracket, if you use a torch you can see the tang push it up with a screw driver and bingo it will drop out

You can then disconnect the cables and you have your termination resistor

This 'tang' thang. Looks like so? I'm being paraoind so I don't snap something. If that *is* the thing I have to somehow press for it to fall out, I'm totally puzzled as to how you guys (without taking the WHOLE diffuser off) managed to figure all this shit out :-)

Just push the tang towards the white wire it will bend and allow the module to fall out

Swapped mine last night took me about 8 mins

I am "less than man" it appears in these things :-). Seriously - I've been going out (working at home) every hour for 10mins over past 2 days. that's how bad it is :-| (or rather, I am).

Would you mind (PM if better) letting me know where you guys got the new module from? I can see online but at @250 ish plus I'd have to buy a coding kit (at least I'm good with software) it'd be pushing 350 and I may bail if that :-)

Thanks for your persistence.

Try to find one of the following modules. Ebay uk would be your best bet as you’ll get done for vat if you buy in Europe. Search for every part number. Then search again with the first 4 digits knocked off. A lot of breakers often don’t include the first 4 digits (it’s due to how bmw write part numbers on their parts)

61355A3F3E8
61355A044A1
61355A08BD4
61355A174F9
61355A24469
61359881529
61359883312

You could also try local breakers for G series BMWs with comfort access. Comfort access cars will have the ribs on the door handles.

I see you are all in the UK. Has anyone from the US looked into this? I will have to wait for Hubby to check it over the weekend to see if we also have these parts.

Might I add a BIG SHOUT out to njw1967, who is basically my brother from another mother :-)

He got me over the final hurdle of my ineptitude and managed to talk me through to getting that bloody 30kOhm box out to check. Ordered the one above now patiently await some kicking action :->

Oh, of course thank again to njw1967 for the advise on the bimmercode setup I have to buy to code it

Not forgetting all the other folk who weighed in of course - will keep you all posted on the outcome.

BE BRAVE.

My 2023 build that I submitted in September does not have “ 32X Deletion of hands-free tailgate operation” listed. Does that mean I’ll get the hands-free tailgate?

Is comfort access with tailgate hands-free standard on your model or did you option it in if it isn't?

It will only be deleted if it should be there but isn't. Also, in the USA the hitch option means no hands-free tailgate feature.

Per my understanding, it is standard (my model is X3 M40i) but I did go for a trailer hitch so I guess no hands-free tailgate for me. Thank you for the information!

Think it must be due to how the US hitch changes the lower bumper design, as in the UK, hands-fee tailgate is still available with the retractable tow bar.

Hi

My car also has the 32x code and was fitted with the 30 k0hm module, I picked up a 9883312 module fitted it.

Using bimmercode I went into HU_MGU and set Backdoor_SMO_INSTALLED to Aktiv. The ECU reset and the options appeared in the tailgate menu.

I then went into BDC_BODY3 and the VAM_SMART_OPENER and VAM_ENABLE_SMART_CLOSE were both already set to aktiv_HK.

I cant seem to get the kick opener to work tho, you mention VO coding?

Does your idrive show the functions to activate and de activate?

This, and also a stupid suggestion but one worth trying - perhaps set them back to not active, code it, start the car perhaps. Then code it again and save.

HU_MGU: Backdoor_SMO_INSTALLED nicht aktiv -> aktiv
BDC_BODY: VAM_SMART_OPENER nicht aktiv -> aktiv_HK
BDC_BODY: VAM_ENABLE_SMART_CLOSE nicht_aktiv -> aktiv

Another stupid suggestion, you are doing the backdoor shuffle properly? It takes a swift kicking motion under the center of the boot area to activate. Good luck!

I have not tried to retrofit yet. I’m not on a x3 but ix3 with 32x deletion. Your video is extremely helpful. Still finding the courage to open up the bumper to check is the parts are there or not. Hahaha.
