Spacers will increase the “swept” area when turning. Depending where the rubbing is, a spacer will likely make it worse.
I’m about to try a set of 265 40 21’s (from the Macan I used to own) for a winter setup on the factory 21’s. I’ll let you know if it fits.
Great, looking forward to hear about your experience.

I think the 265's, could even depend on brand/model, cut it really close to the inner suspension parts. So a spacer or different wheel with more aggressive offset would solve this.
Indeed if rubbing in a different area is the issue, it could become worse with spacers.

I still think the inner clearance is the issue…

picking up my M40I next week and getting all season tires. Climate I live in its a must and rather not swap tires.

Doing the X3M spec. 255-40-R21 in front and 265-40-R21 in back. Most likely doing the new Michelin AS 4s .

Anyone rocking this set up?

I have this same setup on my 2019 X3 M40i. The tires are great on dry, wet and good enough on snow. I would definitely recommend them. The only thing I would do different is put a 295/35/21 on the rears.

True!

Idk if I want to do 265/40/r21 or oem 275-35-r21 in the rears

Hey guys, sorry to hijack this post for my first comment - my wife picked up her '22 X3 with the M-sport brakes/21" wheels. But we live in Wisconsin, and summer tires are not an option in December...

Can she swap out the 245/40/21's in front and 275/35/21's in back for a square setup of 255/40/21's? Looking to make life easier w/ the square setup but want to see if anyone in here has done anything similar. The tech at BMW last night said that "might" be the way to go, but that wasn't very reassuring...

UK based and have been looking for far too long to find a set of all seasons that match the OEM 245/40/21, 275/35/21 and have all but given up.
Based on the comments here, I was willing try to switch to the X3M fitment of 255/40/21, 265/40/21, however the best I can find so far are 255/40/21 Pirelli Scorpion Zero all season, whilst the 265/40/21's would be Pirelli Scorpion Verde all season.
Has anyone or would anyone risk different tyres on the front to the back?

I don't think a square 255/40/21 set would work as the rear 718 rims are 9.5J.

I just put the Michelin AS4's on my M40i but made a mistake in ordering. I have the front in 255/40/21 and ordered the rear in 295/40/21. They fit but you get constant traction control lights. I had to order another set of rears 295/35/21. There is over an inch difference in the circumference between the two.

I'm in the same boat, my friend. I found a mismatched set of winter tires (Continental and Dunlop) that are OEM sizes, but I might be able to find a matching set at the 255/40, 265/40 setup. However, it looks like the difference in tire size might be too much for XDrive, so I'm stumped.

I truly believe the only way to rectify this without losing sanity or breaking the car is to just admit defeat and either switch to a square 20 inch wheel setup, or rotate a different winter and summer wheel setup. I know people are coming up with alternate size options, but the math is mind-bending… not worth it IMO. I ran with two setups… but if I were to do it again, I'd roll with 20s and sell my stock 21 inch wheels on the forum.

I hear you and had a separate set of winters for my previous G31 540i as I was often driving to the airport in the early hours and occasional trips north to my daughters Uni. However now retired and no early morning winter trips, so full winters are no longer needed as day time temps are often above 7 degC and all seasons for the 2 or 3 days of light snow a year would be the way forward for me.
I have also been trying to sell my hardly used BMW winter wheels from the G31 and no one seems to need or want them here. I don't want a potential second set of winters that I may not be able eventually sell

Sorry - I should've clarified… 100% agree with you… I would've went with 20 inch setup so I could just run AS tires year round. The same argument happens on the Macan forum. Unless you're tracking your car, or doing regular canyon runs, summers are over kill for most of us. ASs do just fine for the climates it makes sense for.

Unfortunately 21 inch rims came standard as part of a pack since I wanted adaptive suspension.
Correct sized all seasons for the staggered 20's are few and far between here. The only option I have found so far for staggered 20's are Hankook Kinergy 4S² X H750A.
More options are available for an after market 20inch square setup running 245/45/20's
Just struggling to spend £2500-£3000+ for new wheels as currently need the funds for my daughters education.

Hi cehrl7 - came across your reply about wishing you had gone 295/35/r21 in the back instead of 265/40/r21... any concerns about rubbing in the going with 295? I'm about to pull the trigger on the Pilot AS 4 for my 18 m40i 21" wheels doing 255/40 in front and 295/35 in back. Any feedback would be appreciated as I am about to purchase soon. Thanks!

There are numerous threads of people using 265/40/21 front and 295/35/21 rears with no rubbing. I have a 2022 X3MC on order with the 21" wheels. I plan on installing Michelin Pilot AS4's with this same setup. Some people have done 255/40,or 265/40 up front, either will work.

295 in the rear was ok. The problem is in the front.
the problem that I see with mounting the 295 on the rear of an OE, 9.5" M40i rim is that the RIM IS TOO NARROW. Even if the tire clears fender and caliper, I think that a 295 squeezed onto a 9.5" rear rear is too wide.

That said, has anyone, using the stock 21" rims at 8.5 and 9.5, actually used those sizes: 255/40/21 front and 295/35/21? If they fit, please post a report and pictures. I have from day-one wanted to use this setup, but was told by Tire Rack that the rear rim is too narrow.

Yes, idealy 295 should be mounted on 10.5" wheels.
