When did you actually change your rear brake pads for the first time?
I'm due for service soon, and the CBS indicates that I need rear brake pads serviced in 4000km (so at 24,400km = 15,250mi)
I've read a few anecdotes about the CBS being calibrated incorrectly, so I just wanted some rough stats for when I bring the car into BMW. |

This is more current My rear said 1400 miles remaining from about 13000 until my service center reset the computer at 22000. do not trust that at all. If it annoys you have it reset. Either way, you can only determine brake life the old fashioned way - measure the pads.... esp on the rear. I will answer the poll when i change mine. still on orig front and rear - 24000 miles - I don't have a long commute so I have not racked up the miles like I have on past cars. kind of nice for a change.

My rear pads have indicated replacement in 5000 KM since I turned 40 000 KM. Now I am at 47 000 KM and the car still tells me to replace in 5000 KM. I'll have them check the pads physically in a month's time when the car is due for some other work but my plan is not to do anything until the service indicator tells me I have less than 3000 KMs left.

Thanks. I've seen both of the linked threads, but the majority of replies in both threads were current mileage plus remaining mileage before service according to CBS.
I was hoping that a lot of the people who made those responses have actually had their pads changed by now and can answer this poll. Quote:

I have ~40,000mi on my '11 X3. A year ago, I had the count down stop at 1400mi. Dealer checked pads and stated I had plenty of pad left. They reset the countdown timer to 6000mi or so.
Now, the countdown timer is stuck at 3100mi. Been that way for about 2-3000mi. Will probably make an appointment after winter unless I hear a "grind" There are brake sensors in addition to the mileage countdown, correct? (like there were on the E83?) |

Update:
When I left off back in January, I had 21,000km on the odometer and had the service indicator reset to 24,000km remaining. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago, the indicator had dropped to 0km left and dropped by 50km every time I started the car (even if I only drove 5km last trip). I finally got the car in today (31,000km on the clock) with the cbs indicating that the brakes were due 700km ago. The dealership measured the rear pads at 4.5-5mm remaining (another 5-10k km to go), reset the CBS, and applied a software update that's supposed to fix the rate that it counts down. Here is what I found:
My car had 57k KM on the counter. It started to give me warnings on the rear pads. The thing is that it has a sensor build in so when pads wears of it will also at one point start to wear of that sensor. At this point a yellow warning will be shown. Before this point You can go into the menu yourself and reset the value for next service. Also,if you change the pads yourself the service could be resetted to new pads. When the yellow warning shows it wil start to count down. If you change the pads at this point, remember also changing the sensor(only 1, on the right wheel)If not, timer could not be reset as the sensor has a variable resistor giving the countdown. |

I just ticked over to 51000 miles. Computer has been saying pads will be due in about 3k miles since around 45k. Not sure when I'll have to do it, guess I'll just wait for the actual sensor to go off. Bummer that it had to wait until my warranty went out though.

Had my rears changed at 32k and haven't changed fronts yet (currently 43.5k-ish), and the fronts will probably last until at least 50k.
all "k"s refer to k-miles, not km (somewhat) related question, how long has anyone been able to stretch their first set of TIRES! (the only thing we actually have to pay for right? I almost got to 40k, but I probably should have changed them at 30k)

Finally had my rear pads and rotors changed at 36,600km with 3mm left.
A bit disappointing that the brakes have such a short life... hopefully the next set is a little better. |

Just turned in my 2013 with over 49,000 miles and still had original front and rears. According to the on-board system rears were due at 59,000 and fronts at 79,000.
In terms of the tires, replaced them around 30,000 with non-RFT. I felt the ride was way better.
