Something I found interesting tonight... I can view the owners manual while the car is in motion.

I think it must be tied to dvd playback in motion.

It sure beats having to pull over and stop to check a feature especially if the passenger is doing the reading.

I'm not sure if anyone ever confirmed it, but for the Side Markers, look for this or something similar:

FEM_BODY / 3063 LceLampMapping2 / MAPPING_SIDEMARKER_L_OUTPUT = off
FEM_BODY / 3063 LceLampMapping2 / MAPPING_SIDEMARKER_R_OUTPUT = off

Not sure about the Fog Lights.

  1. Hold down the odometer reset button and turn the ignition on by pushing start/stop button.
  2. Release the odometer reset button, and you should see a menu of 4 items on the dashboard. From here on, use the odo-reset button to advance to the next entry through a short press, and to select through a long press.
  3. Choose the one that says Unlock through the above, which will take you to a passkey screen. Your passkey is the sum of the last 5 digits of your VIN. Increment the two-digit number until you get to it, and with the long press of the odo button, select it.

How do I load my vehicle coding (CAF/.ncd) files into E-Sys in order to edit or view them when not connected to my vehicle? I have gone through the E-Sys "Editors and Viewers" Tab documentation but it seems to have missed a step. I am able to copy and move the .ncd files but I can't seem to load them as it keeps asking me for an FA and that folder is empty. I have not been able to connect the dots between page 2 and 3 of that Tab.

New with E-Sys and some beginners problems:
- when installed the software all went Ok
- ZGW_Search detects the ENET cable Ok and gets e.g. the VIN

But when starting the E-Sys it cannot connetc to the car:

"Detection of programming target failed. [C032]

MCDError Severity: 2051, Error Code: 53315, Description:
internal error, Vendor Code: 28, Vendor Description:
could not parse Db project [2130759747] - SYSTEM_ERROR"

I tried two laptops (both running Win7 x64) but the same error from both.
One additional detail: E-Sys never asked any PIN ...is this normal?

Anyone had similar experience ...any hint how to get forward?

Here's the error msg with all the detailed text:

It seems you have not installed the psdzdata files correctly.

To view your cafd files when not connected to car, you should save your SVT during the last connection to car. Following are the steps:

Connect to the car
As usual read FA and SVT
Now save FA and SVT to a location of your choice but outside E-Sys.
In the process save all the cafd files too
Disconnect ESys

You are now ready for off line reading.

Start ESys
Don't press connect button
Press load to load saved FA (this may be optional)
Press load to load SVT
Right click on any green cafd file marker and New>FDL
Point to the right saved cafd file

Now follow your steps

Thanks April!
Perhaps you can give some further quidance based on following info:

My psdzdata folder "c:\ESysSData\psdzdata" contains all files extracted by WinRAR from the original psdzdata 47.4 rar -packages (using all the 23 downloaded *.rar files). In the "psdzdata\mainseries" subfolder there are some additional folders & files generated during the installation.

The data files in psdzdata were just extracted by WinRAR and there was no any other processing before using them, is this ok ?

The "status" of the other subfoldres in the ESysData -folder is:
CAF - no files here
EST - two files here, e.g. Code Away.est
Etc - no files here
FA - on sample xml file here
FP - no files here
Logs - several log files
ODX - no files here
Rules - three .jar files
SWE - no files here
SVT - no files here
SWT - no files here
TAL - no files here

...and My car is X3(F25) built on 9/2011.

Thanks, that is what I did not do. I had only saved my cadf files and not the FA nor the SVT. Thanks for the the assist.

If you want to look at your car's read ECU coding data (CAFD .ncd files), you only need to launch E-Sys, go to the Editors & Viewers, open the FDL-Editor, put your PIN in, and then navigate to your CAF folder (C:\ESysData\CAF) and select the desired CAFD file's corresponding read coding data .ncd file.

If you want to look at an unread CAFD file, launch the CAF-Viewer, and then navigate to your CAFD folder (C:\ESysData\psdzdata\swe\cafd) and select the desired CAFD.

I have tried both your way and April1 and I get an error message "No EST file chosen". I have associated the cadf files to the SVT but still can't get any further.

Copy "e-sys est" folder from "\\BMW E-Sys\E-Sys Program\e-sys est" to "C:\ESysData\e-sys est"

Launch E-Sys, and Under Options, Settings:

On the EST Tab, set the Developer-Soft-Token EST Path to "C:\ESysData\e-sys est\Code Away.est"

Also, while there, make sure that on the PROGRAM TAB, you set the Directories - Data Path to C:\ESysData

I figured it out I had not pointed the software to the codeaway file in the EST Folder.
