In sure there's a market for it though..

Off the top, the Porsche looks like a better deal, with more horsepower. However, what looks like a small price difference may be hidden in very expensive options for the Porsche.

Macan looks like a baby cayenne, as it should. X4 looks like the X6 and 5GT had a baby. Awkward. I like the X4 front but not the side or rear

Diver wroteDid you see the price of the turbo? Not a small difference there. Then again, the engines don't line up even if you put the 35i against the S. So other than size, are these cars even on the same planet? Is there a plain Macan, no S? I think the problem with BMW in these cases is that they compromise luxury and detail in smaller cars, more than I would like. Porsche, in the other hand, doesn't have any size/exclusivity paradigms. I would not buy a M235i because it exudes a cheaper nature than even a regular 3 or 4 (which is a shame in my opinion). And I would not buy this X4, because it looks like a cheaper version of the X6. BMW has to stop this trend of filling numbers just because they can.
The Macan is a clear win for those who wants a bigger Porsche but not a gigantic Cayenne or the ugly Panamera which is a phenomenal car.
At the moment BMW have the 3/4/5/6 series and the X5/X6, the other cars are cheaper variants of those.
It looks like they are so afraid of Audi, that now they are following them. It used to be the other way around in the past.

Not really a fair fight. Different price categories especially when you start loading up on options.
That said, the Macan is surprisingly attractive. I hate SUVs, but I really like the Macan S. Hmm, maybe future car for the wifey. Looks killer in the light blue that shows up in the ads, but for some reason you can't configure yet.

even though the trunk cargo space is the same, it looks like the X4 has more "floor space" while the Macan gains more air space (higher rear roof line), X4 could be more practical because of that.
I actually like the rear of the X4 more than the Macan, but like the side more on the Macan, fronts is about equal, I like the new X3/X4 front (looks like a baby X5). Interior I think the Macan wins, I have an X3 and am not that impressed by it and they didn't really change anything in the X4.
BUT you can't compare the Macan S to the X4 35i with price, sure its about $2,000 base price difference but look what is standard on each and then add in options to see the real difference, its probalby more like a $10,000 difference when equiped the same...
Also interesting that both are 0-60 in 5.2 seconds. We know BMW is conservative with HP numbers, but 40 less and the same 0-60 times? either Porsche is conservative with their 0-60 number (and BMW is aggresive, which could be because the X3 35i has been tested at 5.5) or the Porsche is HEAVY.

Oh gawd no more of this ugly x4... I can't stand it. We compare two thing when they are "comparable" but x4 3.5 to macan s, Macan just flat out kills x4 in every way.

How exactly does Macan win?
By being more expensive?
By not having free maintenance?
By having MORE horsepower and MORE torque, yet achieving the same
0-60? time?
By having a name like Macan??

So, for less money, with less HP, X4 manages to get the same time with the Macan.
I hope Porsche improved the body structure, all the Cayenne doors in the front fall lower than the rear ones after too much use. I also hope that this one will not discharge the battery every night so you cant start it in the morning. Porsche doesn't worth the money...
X1 gets my vote.

That Macan is going to sell like crazy. It's good looking, it actually is an SUV, and even the base car is well powered. The X4 looks like shit. Rear is just like the X6 and everytime I see it on the road I die a little inside.
