I did cut out the plastic piece in the place of light cover. There are no any connectors underneath :(
My comment was more about taking the whole panel off and finding a wire in there that has power when the door is opened. There are lights under the front seats that come on when the back door is opened. Should be able to splice into than and get power. A wiring diagram would be helpful to know that there is power running thru the switch and not just connecting a ground to complete the circuit.

This is the "light carpet" as shown in the first post, if you use it you can't really even see your puddle lights on the ground...
TIL this is different than puddle lights. Neat!

Only 28 vehicles will be installed, and two of them are X3M's.
I want to know more about this ordering process. Sounds interesting!

FWIW I was near my BMW dealership over the weekend so I dipped in and my service advisor was there...

He actually laughed at me when I asked about this.

But to be fair, actually hearing it come out of my mouth, I probably would have laughed at me too. "Hey, have you heard that there's M Performance carpet lights available and BMW South Korea is installing them for like 300 bucks"

I have him looking into it, but there's no M Performance rep or anything, he doesn't know who to talk to or get ahold of.

I'm not holding my breath.

I'll see what I can do when I get these installed soon. I'll ask my advisor if there are any spare units left and see if I can snatch them if people are willing to pay, but I highly doubt it. Maybe that can help lower the costs, and I'll just do it for the sake of the community if it does work. Not even sure if it's possible to send car parts like that, let alone buy them directly from BMW. That would be fishy AF in their eyes :/

Either way, I'll be posting pics of them when installed!

Be honest with them, tell them one of the guys on the forums in the USA wants a set, and ask them how much to just buy a kit outright. If you're getting them installed for $300ish then I imagine they can't be that much

I can get them installed if I can get them... hell, maybe I can even install them myself

Still waiting on my new M carpet lights (currently 4th in line), and should be getting them installed by next week at the very latest.

But, here are the new carpet lights installed on a M340i from another local member. They look nice!

I should be the first in the world with the new M carpet lights on the X3M.

Here are the parts in their original packaging before installation.

The kit comes as a “retrofit” or “upgrade” package. Upgrade is obviously for those with the prior generation lights, but surprisingly, the retrofit kit is for cars that don’t have it at all which can now be fitted in according to the service center.

I think you have it backwards, I think the upgrade kit is for people that already have the lights, and I think the retrofit kit is for people without them.

Based on these prices.

Goad you could find a site selling them.

Are you installing these yourself, or going to the stealership?
I'll be following your comments and feedback.

Thanks,
John

I'll run it by my Service Advisor, but I'm good friends with a third party shop so I can always just have them do it.

What I really need is a 'retrofit kit' for the puddle lights.

Finally - nearly two months of waiting that I almost forgot about them.

First X3M in the world to have the new M performance carpet lights installed!

They are super bright and surprisingly OEM+ feeling. Already got a comment from a random stranger. Small and subtle upgrade.

Will make sure to get photos with a better stance in the coming days as these are freshly installed.

Last photo reference for everyone.

Ended up in a Russian/Uzbeki district here in South Korea, and my X3M became an instant photobomb session for everyone. People have been commenting on it like crazy, saying its the best mafia sleeper, lmao. It’s so awesome to see so many people say it’s their dream car.

It should. I would compare the parts number for the OEM carpet lights on the F97 platform with the normal G01 platform (they should be the same).

Here is another photo.
