Update installed overnight. No idea what it contains. I'm tech deficient.

Sometimes I get monkey urges to rip the curved flatscreen out of the dash and smash it on the ground. Sometimes.

I just want to mash the pedal and drive. The bolt-on software is extraneous and in-the-way, and probably outsourced to be coded in a 3rd world place.

Stay calm….everything will be ok. As it turns out, the apps update as you drive, which is glitchy. I’m just hoping the updates slow down to once a year. That way I won’t remember how to run the update.

Could be an iPhone ios issue. Did you update to the latest ios version 26.4.1 just before this issue started?
Do both of you having this issue have the same iPhone model? Have you done a hard reboot on your iphone to see if that makes a difference?

I dont believe its an iOS issue unless there's a specific compatibility w/ iDrive9. I dont have this issue in the M3 (iDrive8.5). I have a 16 Pro Max.
Will give the phone a hard reset to see..

Did you follow the 3 stage installation process? Or perhaps the installation step was delayed because you have a specific time set for vehicle to initiate herbal installation step.

Must be connected by both WiFi & Bluetooth Follow ID9 vehicle instructions carefully.

Step 1- DOWNLOAD update to phone through MyBMW App while connected to WiFi 

Step 2-“TRANSFERRING”/DOWNLOAD from MyBMW app to vehicle “DRIVING IS REQUIRED” PREPARATION- AFTER TRANSFER IS COMPLETE AUTOMATICALLY VEHICLE GOES INTO “PREPARATION” FOR A FEW MINUTES IT’S OK TO BE DRIVING.

Thank you so much for the instructions, I actually followed this, and it didn’t show up. However, after waiting, yesterday it popped up! I successfully updated it.

Turn by turn shows up when using the native BMW Navi. Directions when using CarPlay (Google maps) no longer shows in the HUD - was working fine up until last week.
HUD layout is 'standard' but I've also tried other layout modes and still no luck. Might give Genius line a call to see whats what.

Checked with Google Maps Navigation today using Android Auto.

Everything works fine and all informations like turn directions, lane information and distance to next step is present in the HUD as well as in the simplified map view of the driver display.

So as with most of the Car Play bugs in recent history it seems to be an Apple IOS issue.

Interesting. I have a slightly different set of HUD related bugs that made me believe it was BMW. Well, at least one thing is for sure BMW.

So, I get directions of a sort on the HUD with CarPlay (same result if I use Apple Maps or Google Maps via CarPlay) but it ALWAYS has the next turn arrow full screen HUD regardless of how far away it is which is rather annoying. It never minimizes for turns that are still far away. Just HUGE arrow all the time. Second, after using CarPlay for any navigation, the graphic that shows above the default things like speed, cruise status, etc at the bottom of the HUD disappears when under normal driving conditions and won't reappear until iDrive is rebooted. This one I blame on BMW for sure.

Another BMW HUD bug I've noticed I wish they'd fix is that if you have the default full HUD display selected it never shows the upcoming hazard info like pot holes or construction. It only shows on the lower display which I basically never look at because HUD. If you change the HUD layout setting to the minimal setting...suddenly that information does show on the HUD (still on the lower display as well).

There's def some bugs with BMW's HUD software right now but maybe not the horribly annoying huge arrow always being on the screen.

Yea I'm not sure at this point - still havent had a chance to call the Genius line but if it was an iOS issue, it'd be happening in my other car too, no?
Issue only exists with the X3..

I got a message on the app last night that the 03/2026.32 was ready to install. The only problem with that is it was already installed over a week ago. I pressed the install button and the app showed the installation was in process. It then timed out and said it could not communicate with the car. It again said ready to install. This loop continued until this morning, when it finally said it installed and everything was up to date. Wondering if this was a BMW app issue and if anyone else had this experience?

You’re not alone. I woke up to a notification from MyBMW that the software was successfully updated and the apps would update when driven. But this update was installed a couple weeks ago. I came here and was logged out of bimmerpost. My wife got logged out of the MyBMW app this morning. One of those days. We don’t have anywhere to go yet and it’s raining. Hopefully everything will work fine.
