Living in the Los Angeles area has it downside; traffic, crime, gangs, homelessness, taxes and so on. However, the upside is we have a lot of BMW dealers. I mean, a lot. In the Los Angeles and surrounding area I am guessing there are 40 dealerships.

I went to the BMW website and built my G06. This was after weeks of reading this forum and anything else I could find on the web. After building my X5 there is an option on the site to "Get a Quote". You can change the dealership by changing the zip code the site uses. In doing this I asked for a quote from 21 dealers.

My build was loaded with everything but metallic paint (I went with Alpine White), running boards and third row seats. Total MSPR including Destination and Handling is $76,595.

Seven dealers came back with offers of MSRP. One dealer was $20,000 over MSRP (Riverside BMW), two were $5,000 over MSRP, a few at $1000 over MSRP. I only had three under MSRP; Long Beach BMW, Sherman Oaks BMW and Monrovia BMW. Sherman Oak and Long Beach were $1,500 under MSRP. Monrovia BMW would have done $1,750 under MSRP but they had no allocations until deep into 2022.

In 2016 I bought my wife's M2 from El Paso BMW and we did a European delivery. Epic trip. El Paso took great care of me then and repeated that again with their offer for the X5. However, the drive and time would eaten up the saving. I hated to pass on their offer as they are great folks.

Several SAs were very honest that they don't like to order cars. The wait is long and a lot of customers become bothersome and impatient with the wait.

I have an X5 on order from Sherman Oaks BMW. Ross, their internet manager, was great to deal with and is a car guy. He has an amazing M5 track car. In addition to the $1,500 off MSRP I will also get $1,000 loyalty rebate then $500 back from BMWCCA. If BMW comes up with any other discounts before I take delivery I'll also get those.

Now for the wait.

Congrats! Any tips for me as dealers are much more saying I’m lucky if they don’t charge over MSRP or saying another dealer won’t have an allocation or isn’t as high volume blah blah blah. I called the 3 dealers in my area and gave my build code and asked them to give me best ood price.

I don’t have a prior bmw so no loyalty credit, don’t have military in household (I have a cousin that sometimes lives here but don’t know what the reqt’s are), don’t have CCA membership and there’s 6mth wait.

I do have a CSP certificate which I think gets me $1k. I think I would buy vs. lease bc I don’t understand the lease deals and they don’t seem that great. I can buy in cash or finance (believe CSP requires BMW NA finance). If not a good % hopefully I could just pay off the loan early?

I’m also worried it’ll have deleted touchscreen or other items and I won’t know until delivery.

Congratulations, hopefully the wait won't be too bad. The BMWCCA rebate is $1,000 for the X5.

Good luck, enjoy and be safe.

My best advise is to be willing to travel. Sit down and identify dealers within 1000 miles of you. Or, how ever far it takes to come up with 20 dealerships. Build your BMW on their site then plug in the zip code for the dealers and ask for a quote. You build the car once but have to send the request for a quote one at a time. It is time consuming, but the savings is worth it. I bought my wife's M2 in 2016 before they had been released. I got it for ED (European delivery) MSRP from El Paso BMW. Locally they wanted 10K to 20K over sticker. On that one I contacted 30 dealerships internet sells by email.

The lack of touch screen is not an issue for me. I will miss the soft close doors. I added them to my prior 2012 535 MS and may do the same on the X5.

Good luck with your hunt!

Thanks. And, thanks for the info on the $1,000 BMWCCA. Every $500 helps!

Same thing in NYC, we have lots of choice. I did the same thing when I got my X5 in 2020. I went to about 8 dealerships via email with my build and took best offer. I feel bad for people in smaller cities because there's no competition.
