I don't think its possible to clean it back to the matt finish, you have literally polished the leather smooth with your hands. although it usually takes a good while before this happens

Neither of my last two cars (Bmw's) one 3 years old and one 4 suffered from this, I wonder if you have rough hands ? (no insult intended, sorry madam :-) )

I would maybe contact a car detailing specialist they know all the tricks.

It’s possible to clean back to matte finish.

Use a damp microfiber cloth, moistened with water. No cleaning products, just water.

Rub gently, over and over and over again. Turn the cloth over the rub some more.

It will return to nearly new. If the steering wheel is very dirty it might take several sessions with the damp microfiber.

I maintain both of my recent model German SUVs this way, and restored a 14 year old Toyota steering wheel using this method. It works.

This can be used on any high touch surface. The root cause is oil and dirt on the hands. Useful for turn signal stalks, wiper stalks, start button bezel, gear selector, door trim panels, the list goes on and on.

Just use some Soapy Wooder from Chrixfix it video lol after minute 12 - simply water and dish soap and a good microfiber towel

I put down a microfiber towel over the gauges to prevent splatter and clean the wheel using a horsehair leather brush + diluted Optimum No Rinse (ONR) then wipe it with a clean, dry microfiber towel.

I use the below, but just be very gentle with the brush. I used the same on my F36 wheel and it came up nicely. (Use the same products on the seats!)

Microfibre towel dipped in hot (not boiling hot), water (with a little handsoap).

Then wipe off with dry microfibre.

Does the trick and gets rid of the shine which is left by skin oil, mositurisers, KFC... :)

Pan the Organizer has great videos on detailing!

Colourlock mild cleaner and their leather brush. It gets all the oils out of the leather thus removing the shine and bringing it back to a matte finish.

Some people use non-bleaching toothpaste to remove scuff marks from leather shoes, so that should be applicable. Personally, I scrub the steering wheel gently using sponge and baby shampoo mixed with baking soda, wipe off with damp MF cloth, then protect it with your favorite leather protectant.

I use G101 diluted 10 parts water/1 part G101
