Hi everyone! Just had my 2017 x4 M40i delivered. I love everything but the brakes are ugly as hell. I pulled the trigger assuming the M40i had the upgraded blue calipers but nope.. just the x5 brakes. (Super dusty)
Has anyone painted their brakes and how did it look? Did it come out nice or ghetto? What about caliper upgrades? I've googled and searched here but didn't find much. Photo for attention. [IMG][/IMG]

however... let me just give you some knowledge on the matter. Yes, they aren't sexy 4 pot brakes like the new G01/G02, but the F26 M40i front calipers and rotors at 348MM, vented and directional do the job PLENTY fine. Even for the most aggressive drivers (unless you're tracking it, but if you bought an x4 for the track you're confused, the only way to track an SUV is with ceramic brakes.. ie Urus, RSQ8, big boy wallets)....
the brakes on your X4 M40i are MORE than capable for the job, even at 110MPH.. you just might hav to replace the rotors/pads every 18 months if you drive like I do.
To save you a LOT of time and effort.. there is NO feasible way to upgrade your brakes on an F26 M40i, the photos I showed you are achieved using M6 front rotors, 5 series M sport calipers and a custom caliper mounting bracket machined to spec. Its just not worth it, cost or complexity. Go enjoy your car, maybe change the brakes, but it's perfect... just have fun.

So no chance on the F26 to at least swap out the fronts for the G02's monoblocks? Like the OP I was really hoping for the blue Brembos on the M40i... It's all about the looks, not the stopping LOL.

Tronik sells the G01 front setup for the F25/F26 on ebay. It requires custom milled pads to clear the rotor hat, which I think is the biggest downside.
Or, you can run X5 brakes on the front. Either the 50i 365mm or X5M 395mm are available upgrades. X5 brake upgrade for X3 or X4
There are 345mm, 370mm and 396mm rear options out there, too. I run the F10 550i rear 345mm setup. BMW F10 550i rear brake upgrade for X3 and X4

hardparker wroteThanks for this info! I hate seeing G01 and G02's out there with the better looking brakes than our F25/F26's! I think the older body style looks better overall, just need the brakes to match!Tronik sells the G01 front setup for the F25/F26 on ebay. Chamberlin wroteIM with you man, All the work they put into this vehicle looking nice, lots of power and great handling, and they put those ugly calipers on there. Ive been looking into caliper/rotor upgrades as well. Not for the performance, but for a better performance look!! They dropped the ball on aesthetics with the brakes on this one. Thanks for this info! I hate seeing G01 and G02's out there with the better looking brakes than our F25/F26's! I'm planning at the moment an upgrade to 374x36.
Is it necessary to modify the brake-pads ?
I've see a lot of videos and pictures which is shown that the brake-pads are too big for the M5 (E60) brake-discs.
With regards
