or there must be a succession to a certain year before the latest map?

Hello, I read a lot of thread and I'm trying to understand.
Map updates and Idrive updates are 2 separate things?
I want to update the Idrive to get carplay but also update my maps because I like the navigation in the headsup display.

I have a 2018 X4 M40i
NBTevo_M17365I
Road Map NORTH AMERICA EVO 2017-4

I downloaded the north america evo 2021-3, which I think is the latest.
So that will only update the maps for the navigation correct?

Yes, 2 different things. Map Update you need only Map Data and valid FSC Code. Latest is NORTH AMERICA EVO 2022-1.

iDrive update requires programming Head Unit for new firmware.

Yes, they are separate. Updating iDrive won’t do anything for map.
