Upgraded the stock foglights to 2400 lumen LED 'bulbs'. Install was simple plug and play and I only used a suction cup and a knife to pop the housing out and trim the backing. No iDrive errors but I don't know if they flicker on startup yet, as I need to find a big reflective surface to test. Bought them from kbcarstuff (aka xenondepot) with a 15% coupon.

Thanks everybody. This weekend I plan on getting some night shots so show the cover and spread. Night shots with a camera phone suck so I'm going to dig out my DSLR. I also have some LED reverse lights installed from Putco, but they do trigger the "Warning, backup lights out" message.

Actually never looked in to that since I got these on sale. Did not get a chance to take night photos, had some other things come up this weekend.

My guess is like other retrofits, you would have to do some coding of some sort to get the LED retrofit housings to work properly. These were 100% plug and play.

or it might be a simple plug n play upgrade since its standard feature on both 28i and 35i.
unless the foglight housing is different in size or in shape since it has new front design

Brilliant mod! Been thinking about doing exactly the same thing as I am not a fan of the yellowish tone of the fog lights.

Need to get this done ASAP. Thanks for the inspiration, good job.

28i and 35i might be the same housing, but this X3 is an F25 pre-LCI.

Mine is going in tomorrow and I will ask them if it is a straight retro-fit. If they have them in stock (doubtful), I might get them to go ahead and fit them!

I will let you know what they say!

I'm quite interested too, the yellow fogs are quite ugly really, and I don't like having to put a big resistor in front of LEDs to prevent the warning, it's a bit silly

My BMW dealer has told me that the fog lights from the LCI will not fit. I assume that this is true, but I would like to see diagrams of both to know if a retro-fit is possible with a couple of mods!

I didn't with these LED bulbs. Everything is self contained, you just have to trim out the back-stop since the bulb base is physically longer than a standard halogen.

Thanks for sharing. I'll probably try to do this mod as well. Looking forward to those night shots.

Night shots with just the DRL's and then the fog lights on. As I post this, I just realized I can turn the DRLs (Angel eyes) off in the i-Drive :sign0012:

Nice upgrade! Now if only somebody could figure out how to make the inner projectors work then we'd be fantastic

I don't think there are bulbs back there to do anything with. You could possibly do a Xenon bulb retrofit tapped directly off the battery, fuse it and put an auxiliary switch in the cabin, but I don't see any way to have it fit with OEM switches.

The forum coding guru's would have to weigh in on that I guess.

Bump I just did same mod... huge improvement. Only thing to add is I had to code off voltage monitoring using Carly to avoid the fog error malfunction.

I have thought about it. But not sure I want to take apart my headlights and risk messing something up. But Im sure you could retrofit another actual projector in there.
