J.D. Power says fuel economy push hurting reliability
http://seattletimes.com/html/busines...ndability.html
"The race to increase vehicle fuel economy is taking a toll on quality. Owners of three-year-old vehicles are reporting more problems than they did a year ago, according to J.D. Power and Associates' annual survey of vehicle dependability. It's the first time since 1998 that the average number of problems per vehicle has increased." ... "Mini, Dodge and Land Rover had the most reported problems. Mini, the worst performer, had 185 problems per 100 vehicles." Wow, that's a lot of problems for Mini. |

You know that doesn't surprise me. I just traded in a '57 plate Mini Cooper S. Aside from some pretty terrible design issues, one particular flaw with the R56 engine (used in Peugeot cars too), was the recycling of crank case gases to lower emissions. It fed them back into the head behind the valves. Because it's a DI engine, the valves didn't get washed by the fuel and the oil vapours also coming up from the crank bake onto the valves leading to carbon build up, lumpy performance and in the end, a whacking great bill to have the head removed and cleaned.
Doesn't it always seem like 1 step forward and 1 step back? |

Just curious if they actually explain how they get from A to B? I could also claim it was due to the focus on cost-savings to improve the bottom line since sales on new vehicles are so poor right now.

bmw = korean
I drove a 5 series 528 last month and had to wind the engine to redline to have "good" acceleration with 5 passengers.
Car was very good overall ( ended up buying a 2014 e350 sport merc with a real engine) damn i can only imagine the 2 series tourer with 5 people and luggage with a 136hp engine. 2 series tourer with 3 cylinder engine. what a joke. I need to move onto another brand, again |
