You need to pay $200 / year if you want to subscribe the Internet, otherwise BMW Assist is free for 4 years. You should be able to use horn, lock/ unlock, send destination to car using BMW Remote, just get registered with them for free.

Why can't the app tell you if the car is locked or not, that's what I want to know.

It's a very basic program but quite helpful to people like me who forgets to lock the door. I always remotely lock the door of I have doubt. |

I use mainly the ventilation command. It's very useful when you park in the sun and want to have the car slightly less hot when entering, just trigger it 5 minutes before going to sit in your car. I had it also on my 3 series and used it a lot. When the car is in the summer sun, it can easily reach 50 degrees (celsius) and having the possibility to lower that value to 10 degrees less is very good.

For those of us in NA, the ventillation (Precondition) command is not available. Parked-Car Ventilation may be available depending on your options, and can be pre-programmed to ventilate the X3 at certain times. Gotta be re-enabled every day though.

I ended up programming a button for the climate screen to reactivate the ventilation timers. I enjoy those features -- the ventilation and the programmable buttons.

Dumb question, but I thought I needed the Tech package to use BMW Assist or buy the software addition. Are you guys saying that BMW Assist is free for 4 years and I should be able to use my iPhone 4 app?

bmw assist is part of the tech package. There is no yearly subscription to be paid for the first 4 years. I assume it is just buried in the price.

It's part of "BMW Assist with Enhance Bluetooth & USB", a $650 option. Tech package includes this option...

There are three separate things being discussed here, no?
BMW Assist is what you get for 4 years with the Tech package. The BWM Assist Convenience package is an add-on to BMW Assist that goes for $200/yr and includes things like concierge and BMW Online services on iDrive. BMW Apps is what is needed to use your iPhone app, and is a separate $250 option. |
