08 335i for SS Camaro?
Hey guys, I'm looking for some advise. I currently have a 2008 E90. Before that, I had a 2000 V6 Camaro.
My warranty is ending soon, and I'm really afraid that once it does, my car will fall apart and will cost thousands to fix. I don't think it will break down, since I've never had a problem with it before (knock on wood ). I haven't even really looked into the camaros too much, and obviously I may hate it once I test drive it, but what do you guys think? I mean I hate to trade in a beautiful BMW for a Chevy, but 426hp is pretty darn fast. Plus, I just enjoy muscle cars. Would I be making a mistake?

I hope you're seriously not considering trading in your car because it "might break" once it's out of warranty. You realize that it's going to cost you "thousands" to trade to anything new right?

Do us (and you ) a favor. Go drive the SS and come back and give us a review of it. Otherwise you're gonna hear the following:
1)Yes, trade the car for the Camaro, they rock! 2)No don't trade the car for that GM made piece of crap! 3)Ahhh you are a BMW fanboy how can you imply that decades of American made planned obsolescence persists today! 4) OH yeah well your momma drove my BMW over to my place last night and parked it there! 5)Ha, my Mom can't drive Manual! 6)She seemed to do fine with the Stick last night! 7)That's it, I'm tracking your IP address right now! errr, at least that's what these threads usually evolve into. |

And like I said, that's not the main reason, but it's something I worry about. Especially since the gf/soon to be fiance will be going to dental school in a year, it's going to be hard to pay for an major repairs once we're down to just my salary. But, I just like the camaros. That's the bigger reason than anything else. If they would have had the camaros in 2008 when I was looking for a new car, I probably would have bought one then. I'm glad I got my 335 though, I love it. Probably shouldn't put the cart before the horse and should go test drive it before I keep pondering the question. Maybe I'll hate it. Who knows.

Definitely drive it. It has generated very polarized opinions based on its extreme approach to interior and exterior styling (which leaves you feeling like you're looking out of slits in a bunker). Also, you should test drive a 5.0 if you're considering the SS. It's a little less extreme on the interior, offers good visibility, has a great tuner base already, holds its residual value very well, and you'd be supporting Ford.

I was able to put a few hundred miles on an SS over a couple of days last Summer and I really enjoyed it. If I didn't need 4 doors and something for all seasons I would have an SS (or if I had space for another 'toy').
The interior isn't crappy, it's just not as "mature" as the BMW interior. I didn't hear any rattles or excessive road noise while driving the SS. It did have a very nice exhaust note though. My one complaint about the car is rear visibility. It's pretty tough to see behind you for lane changes. |

Forget the Camaro. Why are you financially responsible for your gf? Chances are you will lose the girl and the money somewhere down the road.

Can't blame you, the reliability of the 3 series has put a ding on their image for sure.

even though ss may have the power you are looking for, the 335 i think is still reliable car. I have a 330i, not to familiar with the 335i, but isnt the hpfp issue covered till 120000 miles. My roommate has a Camaro RS, and while the exhaust does sound nice, i feel the interior has completely gone to shit...to each is their own, do what you feel right, but like most people would say "Your asking people what there opinion is on a BMW forum"
cheers

Hmm.. interesting. If you're looking for something that is faster / louder and a little coarse, then I'd think the Camaro SS or the new Mustang GT would be a better buy. (Think Rock - loud, aggressive but you can only take so much of it)
But if you're looking for the overall package - great performance / comfort / luxury and a refined driving experience, then BMW is definitely a better bet. (Think Jazz / Blues - Smooth, pleasing, restrained yet classy) I won't comment on reliability, however, coming from someone who's owned a 350Z and then getting the 335i coupe, I still prefer the Z as a weekend car, but definitely not as a daily driver - drives too harsh and gets loud at higher rpms (may also have to do with me getting 'older' :P). Assuming that the Camaro / Mustang GT fall in that category.. Best bet would be to test drive the cars and compare that to what you have currently... |

Took the words out of my mouth. If I were looking into trading my car in for something american, you can bet it would be for a 5.0 mustang.

I third this sentiment.
The mustang is better built, faster, better handling, more versatile, and the interior will not go to shit. I came to BMW from a mustang and honestly i would have considered Ford again if they had a powerful RWD sedan |
