how important is money(lifestyle) to you?

just thought id get some insight from you guys,the reason I ask is I absolutely fucking hate my job(Im a realtor)I genuinely just dont give a shit about real estate even though it can make me alot of money,I drive a nice car and have nice things but I m not happy,its just too hard for me to play the role at work,I know it sounds like Im just being immature but I think I would be happier making less money doing something else I enjoy,what do you guys think,

You can always be happier doing something else - remember that. You just need to know when/where to settle.

I think that 99% of all people hate their jobs at some point.

Even professional athletes, and movie stars will bitch about their jobs.

I personally believe that you should have a career that does not decrease your quality of life. Meaning, if you have to gut it out during the week, but have reasonable hours, and don't work weekends, so that you can do what it is that you really want to do then you are fine.

No matter what you do there will always be good days and bad days...

As long as the bad days don't impinge on your mental health to the point where you can't enjoy your free time I say deal with it.

And besides, without the $$ you won't be able to enjoy many of the things that you currently are able, and will have to work more just to pay the bills.

personally if ur financially stable... your more happier... i mean some people go w/ the trend saying "do what makes you happy"... but if ur ass broke and u cant support yourself or your family and ur living in the US but in 3rd world conditions.. then damn... haha do the job that makes u unfullfilled but at least gives you something to put on the table.

but since u are a realtor and u probably do have some dough stashed away... i guess a change would be good as long as you have savings and can honestly say you can support yourself in ur current life style for a while.

thats all IMHO... but then again im only 18 and money is very important to me... since the rest of my extended family is pretty wealthy and my grandparents are leeching off my parents.

f@ck that... if you're making good money with good hours don't change a thing... i'm sure 90% of people dont like their job either, but they go to work everyday... i GARANTEE you if you change your job to somehting you like that pays sh!t, in 3-7 months you will say to yourself "i'm an idiot, why the hell did I ever do this"... it's always like that, when you make alot of money you always think stuff like "shit, this is boring, bla bla", it's just your mind is f@cking with you

I can play 4-8 No Limit Texas Hold 'em and make an average of $1,000 a day for 7 hours a day at the Indian casinos here but would I do that for a living? Hell no!

Well maybe there is something else besides music and real estate that you would like to do and make decent money. There are plenty of online schools that can offer education at your convienence. It's never too late to start. Health care is going to really boom when all of the babyboomers come to age here soon. Any field is good. Nursing is really hot right now. Doctors can have malpractice issues but still a good field.

i dont see how that relates to this thread... chances are you will make $1k/day for 3 days and you will loose it later down the road (believe me, i won alot with poker too, and I know how it all goes down) ... with his job, there's no chance of loosing what he made

His job though depends on weather he sells a house or not. What happens when you get sick or ill? No protection there. You can only know what is for sure and take a risk with the unknown.

Money ISNT everything. I changed careers early on from one where I could have made much more, but I ended up going for a job that I thoroughly enjoy. While I still get paid decently, I relized that my happiness was worth more than the paychecks I would have gotten elsewhere...

When you look it there`s just no happiness in this world. The problem with law is that the hours are crazy. I took a few days off to watch the World cup and now I'm suffering because of that. My problem is that I'm to materialistic, I love money.

My advice to you is to do something you like eventhough you make less money. Life is short so enjoy it.

Its a no win situation. Lower income to be happy but at what cost? Not being able to buy things you want or maybe even not being able to save up for your kids college. The grass is not always greener on the other side. There will always be something that you will not like.

I think in polls 75% of Americans are unhappy with their jobs. Part of that is because it's not always fun to make a living. (for those who believe it ...in Genesis that we are to live off the sweat of our brow)...part of it is that jobs which we consider glamourous or highly interesting are often only open to the people in the upper echelons of cognitive or physical ability, and that can't be everyone.

So my take on this is that if you have the smarts to switch fields (smart people can almost always switch fields...sadly, people who are below average for brightness can switch areas, but often to another unglamourous type of employment) then do it. Just make sure that it's worth a temporary pay drop. My brother started out as a civil engineer and now he teaches in business school. My sister was a reporter and now she is a business consultant. Both of them make a lot more than I do, even though I'm a physician.

I don't know anything about you, but my understanding is that Real Estate is competitive, and you have to be talented to do well. This indicates to me that you're a smart and hardworking guy.

Seems like you're too young to be "settling". It's one thing if you have a family to support, but if your'e more mobile than that, GO FOR IT. Even if it doesn't work out, well you will know you gave it your shot.

I'm one of those people that believe you can make money in nearly any field. But the trick is finding something your passionate about. Something you don't mind spending 16 hours a day on, because if you don't, chances are someone else will, and you'll be hard to beat because you enjoy it, and they hate it.

20% of real estate agents make 80% of the transactions. And 80% of the real estate agents only do 20% of the transactions. Chances are those in the 20% really enjoy it.

Bottom line: find not only what you enjoy doing, but what you have a natural aptitude for. Those things that come easy to you, and you enjoy, but come hard to others and they hate. Hopefully, it will also be something that you can make money in.

My goal in life is to make a lot of money, like 800 million. Then I want to donate almost all of it. I want to be a robin hood of sorts.

Are you debt free? (Car paid for, credit cards paid for, loans paid, etc) If so then follow your heart and do what makes you happy.

Now if you have bills....then you should grind it out and make sure you take care of business before chasing the proverbial dream.

Broke is not fun once you have had money.
