Any iDrive Updates in 2024?

I've seen other BMW models talking about an 07/2024 update but I'm still on 11/2023 with my 2023 M40i. MyBMW app doesn't show any updates and searching for updates in the car comes back saying no updates available.

Just curious if anyone has gotten an over-the-air update for anything past 11/2023.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Does your car have a software related issue ? There very little, if any SP18 stuff.

Don’t know what SP18 is but yes, I’ve been having an issue with CarPlay connectivity disconnecting at times. Reboot of phone doesn’t get it to reconnect but rebooting iDrive does. In fact once it does this disconnect, it won’t reconnect to CarPlay, Bluetooth, or WiFi until I reboot iDrive or shut the car off and leave it for awhile. Was hoping it’d be fixed with an update.

SP18 (Service Pack 2018) is the version of the underlying systems that supports iDrive in the G01 LCI.

Usually with recent BMW updates SP18 is now a tiny footnote, if anything, about any changes. The update version covers lots of different models, and most of the changes relate to other, more recent system versions not SP18.

I’d talk with a dealer about the issue with CarPlay.

Just out of curiosity, does the low priority of SP18 mean we may just get OTA well after more important versions or that we may not get some of the OTA at all?

It just means version updates contain little, if anything relating to SP18 cars, but the version still gets offered. It may also depend on the options on the car.

At this stage the chances of getting any feature updates for iD7 is pretty much zero imo.

For sure. All I expect at this stage are bug fixes when needed.

With CarPlay etc, I’d be more inclined to think Apple updates are a candidate for issues, particularly, if things were stable on iD7 version and then problems started.

My problem with CarPlay started with 11/2023.50. Also indicative that it’s not Apple is that even restarting the iPhone will not get it to reconnect, only an iDrive reboot resolves the issue when it happens.

I’ve gone a month without it dropping connection like this but I’ve also had it happen only a day or 2 apart. I only count it if it won’t reconnect. Connection drops that reconnect can be annoying but seemingly a different issue and very rare in my case.

Do you mean a BMW OS update 11/2023.50 was the trigger for the issue and it was fine before ?

That’s my take. When I bought my car it was on 07/2023 and never had an issue. Problems appeared to start in the weeks after the 11/2023 update for me. Could be software related, could be a coincidence.

If you want the update, let the dealer update it and reference this SIB.

Hence my comment, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. There a chance you will get issues not upgrades with any software update.

As I said, talk with your dealer, and I’d turn auto OTA OS updates off.
