Would you be comfortable valeting your car?

Heading to Heavenly Ski Resort (Lake Tahoe) for one final time this season. However, nearly all hotels offer valet parking exclusively, with no self-parking available. Out of curiosity, are you comfortable with valeting your car? Personally, I dislike having anyone but myself drive my car. I'm considering taking our Toyota instead, although I really want to drive the M40i for this trip, lol.

If it was a '72 Ford Pinto it would be okay, my X3...no way on earth.

Is there a “valet mode” in ID7?

Regardless; the Dahler ATT device (pedal commander + anti-theft) has valet mode capabilities. I doubt that you’d purchase and install simply for this upcoming trip though

I don't mind it and have used Valet. I don't do it often, because I hate others in my car too. However, I prefer to take my M40i and would rather take the very slight risk over taking another vehicle.

I also have an integrated dash cam that is hard to notice if they go crazy.

In all likelihood, it will be fine and you will enjoy taking the SAV you bought to enjoy, not leave at home just incase.

Never…unless it’s a well-insured rental when traveling. Google valet driver videos.

My building has valet and I use it a lot. I’ve also used it at local malls, restaurants, and the airport for years without any issue. That’s not to say there never will be one, but there’s also plenty of super cars being parked at the same places I usually valet at. I figured if my building valets $300K vehicles daily, my plebeian non-full M BMWs are fine.

Not trying to be a jerk, but you can google a lot of things and get thousands of results that very rarely happen. If you are going to a fun resort/hotel with reputable brands, it is very unlikely something will happen. Perhaps it is just me, but I am not an alarmist and would rather enjoy my car and vacation.

Never....and have plenty of experience. I would use a rental for this trip and keep M40 safe at home.

I agree. I know it's not the same as a ski resort, but I last had mine valet parked at Heathrow airport in Feb, and will be doing the same again when I travel in June... I've used their valet parking a fair amount over the last few years and never had a problem - plus, it's so convenient being able to roll up right to the departure zone and unload, without having to lug your cases and bags from the middle of a parking lot.

So, if the option is there for me, I'd take it! (Assuming that the establishment is well known/reputable, obv).

Not if I can avoid it. But I’m not going to lose sleep over it and change cars for a trip.

1) I would rather not have some random dude driving my car. (Then again someone does every time I take it to the dealer for repairs)

2) I’ll let Dwight from The Office explain: Why tip someone for a job I'm capable of doing myself? I can deliver food, I can drive a taxi, I can and do cut my own hair. I did, however, tip my urologist. Because I am unable to pulverize my own kidney stones.

I prefer not doing it, but if I have to I review the BlackVue dash cam (front and rear) footage when I get it back from the valet to ensure all is proper.

Of course. Done it many times with no problems. I probably wouldn't do it at some low-rent place, however.

I use the valet mode on ID7, it does help keep things a little more secure. At some of the hotels we've stayed at it has been valet park or take your chances on the street. I let them know that there's not a mark on it and that's how I expect it back. I also tell them if they keep it away from other cars, I'll be grateful when I redeem it. The remote camera feature does have its uses.

LOL lots of overreaction from this thread IMHO. I just got back from a road trip to NOLA a few weeks ago and valeted my M340i about 6x over 5 days at 2 different hotels. Not a single scratch. I also valeted at a restaurant in Dallas last weekend and no issues. Just live your life, guys. These are BMWs, not Lamborghinis.

I have a professional detailer to wash, clean and detail my car once every month, that’s all my car gets. If it’s crazy dirty in between my detailer appointment then I’ll power wash it only with a touch of citrus cleaner, that it is.

Car is Brooklyn Grey, so it hides the dirt very well

I agree. By us X3s are a dime a dozen, so I very much doubt a valet will be taking my car for a joy ride. "Worst" I had when I valeted at a hotel in DC, was they reset my seat position #1 which was annoying but I assume was done in error.
My husband refuses to valet his M3, but it's more so because it's a manual. And even though many valets will tell you they know how to drive manual, we're always weary.
