Ideal Tire Width for 8.5x20?

I need to order tires next week for my new Vossen HF-5's which are F 8.5x20 & R 9.5x20. I was hoping to go up to 255/45/20 on the new front 8.5" but I'm seeing most tire-wheel packages online are being bundled with the OEM size 245/45/20. TireRack support told me in their tire database for the X3 M40i it said not to stagger if using 8.5 wheel and to only use 255/45 if square. Are there any disadvantages with the 255/45's?
