2024 X3 M40i Oil Capacity

I'm trying to figure out what the oil capacity is for my 2024 X3 M40i. Do the manuals not list all of the capacities for oil, coolant, etc? I can't find it in the owners manual anywhere.

I've searched the forums and have found that its either 6.5L or 7.2L. Anyone know the correct answer?

My source says 7.1L and that’s what I went with

I had the same question. Two times changed the oil, added 6.5 liter. Measured the oil level several times/different days and it showed the Max level so I decided not to add more oil.

How did you measure it?

If you used the method within iDrive I’m pretty sure the consensus here is that is inaccurate

Lastly; my dealer put in 7L at my first oil change

BMW chart for B58 says 6.5L / 6.9 quarts. Should be no different on G01. I always buy the 7-liter kit and pour it all in.

For the X3 it depends on the model year actually.

https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=30430302

For the 2024, it’s 7.2L according to that thread. Which is significantly more than 6.5L for older years.

Yes with iDrive.
Somewhere I read they started to put a little more oil than what actually is needed, to push for the longer oil change intervals (in case of oil loss). But can't tell if it's true or not.

Anyway, I initially added only 6 litter and iDrive showed 3/4 level, then I added 0.5 litter more and it showed the Max level. If iDrive is inaccurate it will to be very difficult to know how much oil I should add.

**Update - I finally did the first oil change of my 2024 M40i @ 2,000 miles and i measured what I drained out. It came out to just over 7.0L, so the 7.2L is probably correct. I put in 7.0L of Liqui Moly, took the measurement, and it came back All Good and at the Max level. So I didn't have to crack open another Liqui moly for the .1 or .2

I'll take another measurement in a week or so to make sure level is still good.

Just to pull official documents that are actually on this forum.

It's funny how "confusing" this topic is. I had to have a chat with FCPEuro a few weeks back since all their kits only have 7 L of oil, which is low. The answer was to order an additional bottle and sit on 80% of it lol.
