Driver profile keeps changing to "Guest"?

I've noticed lately that when I get in my car the driver profile frequently changes to "Guest" on it's own and I have to manually change it back to my profile. It seems to happen randomly and for no apparent reason.

I'm the only driver of my car and I have only used one key fob since I bought it. I never use the key fob to lock or unlock so it just stays in my pocket. I changed the battery on the fob a few months ago so I know it's not that. Any ideas why this keeps happening?

Does your car have the new 03/2023 update? I thought that there were a few people who remotely updated theirs and had that problem. I see you have a pre-LCI, so it would have had to be a dealer-installed update, but maybe it's a bug in the software?

Same thing happened to me after dealer updated mine to 03/2023. Seemed to change to guest mostly if I opened the hatch first using comfort access before opening drivers door. Now if I’m opening hatch first, I unlock the car by pressing the key fob and it seems to keep my profile.

My 2020 has done it 2 or 3 times. It's OK if you notice before you start the car as you can change profiles, but once you start it, it is a right pain to switch profiles.

First time it happened to me I didn’t notice it had switched to guest profile till I went to press one of my favourite keys and nothing happened. Realised they were all blank so had to find somewhere to pull over as you needed to be stationary to switch profile. One of my favourites is set to a phone number which gives me barrier access to a site I was going to. You’re right it’s a pain especially when it required a PIN number to switch which I couldn’t remember being set up. Luckily because it was a four digit one I guessed right first time.

Thanks, I'm due for service in about a month and will ask my SA to check that.

Last time it happened I shut off the car, locked and unlocked it with the key but it didn't change to my driver profile. I had to do it manually with my PIN and yes, that's a pain. You can't do it while you're driving as someone else mentioned.

Has happened to me 3-4 times as well usually when first starting the car. I usually just power down and then power up and sometimes it will switch. Otherwise I have to manually change the driver if I can remember the PIN.

It's a pain...

I have the same thing, I thought that was “intended” behavior. I don’t have my profile linked to any key, bc it only lets you link to one key!! AND LOCKS THE PROFILE FROM BEING USED BY ANY OTHER KEY!!! I have no idea how to just default the car to my profile, I thought it wasn’t possible. I literally have to select my profile at the start of each drive and it’s infuriating. I might as well just have put all my settings in Guest.

Is this not intended behavior? Is there a way to fix this??

I’m not quite sure what you mean. If I use my wife’s key to unlock the car (linked to her profile), I can still switch to my profile.

You are correct that you can only have one fob per profile… but I guess they figured who would need multiple fobs all for themselves?

If you did use both fobs and wanted them both linked to the same profile, why not at least link then one you use most often and then manually select the profile on the other rather than do that on both?

My ‘21 X3 M40 does this occasionally. It’s a safety thing too because once I’m driving and realize it my side mirrors change. Of course I change them on guest profile but it really should not happen. I’ll mention to the dealer next time. Just an annoying glitch.
