Wireless charging tray

Had one of these in my '19 that was hard to install (replaced OEM fronr tray) and did not work consistently. Now I am getting a '23 (x30) in the next couple of weeks (19 is going to son) and I see newer version trays that plug in. I am sceptical. Are any of them any good - do they charge sufficiently? Overheat? Just not sure it is work it vs. a cord to the USB port or cig plug. I assume if they are using the USB port then I can't use it for playing music from a thumb drive. Any help appreciated.

I have used the Sig Hill plugin one and it worked fine. Not the fastest charge but I think the factory one is even slower. Some have said the largest phones won't fit just fyi.

I bought one from AliExpress. I’m really happy with it. It looks stock and charges the phone enough that I don’t worry about it. I wanna say it was 50 bucks or so.

Check the thread on stuff people bought from AliExpress. I left a link there for the one I bought.

Best of luck.

I just bought the 10w version of this on sale for my 21 x30i. I assume no change for 24? Looks high quality and it is QI certified, but I only just got it this week and haven't installed it yet, so I can't comment on how it works. Seems the 10w version is no longer on sale (I got it for $47), so I'd go for the 15w for the slight price difference now.

Thank you. I prefer the ones that plug into the USB port rather than the cigarette lighter. Ordered one from Amazon that had decent reviews. I am a bit gunshy about aliExpress because of a bad experience trying to return a defective product. The seller was nasty and unhelpful and Ali would not help.
(A USB drive that failed; seller wanted a video before allowing a return (WTF)). It was something like $15 and I finally just threw up my hands in defeat.

If you get this can you share your experience installing it? I looked on the inbay site and there are pictures that are not very helpful. Thanks

I tried the one off amazon. Our x3 has the digital key reader there, and that got in the way of the aftermarket unit.

How bad is the original wireless charger? I just bought a 2021 X3 M40i and it came with wireless charging the original owner bought as a standalone option....I take delivery tomorrow.

Anyone know the part number for the standard cup holder without factory wireless charging? I searched a bit and only came up with one part number that was referenced in a thread on retrofitting factory wireless charger.

https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=24591532

I want to get this Inbay charger but not sure if I have to swap my cup holder assembly for it to fit….

It depends on what you expect out of it and how you use your phone. I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max in an Otterbox commuter case. It fits fine and will charge slowly on on the pad. It does get warm, which I expected. I do not use CarPlay, preferring to use the car's nav and organize my music on a flash drive that's connected to the USB port next to the charging tray. My understanding is that if you DO use CarPlay or anything else with a Bluetooth connection, the OEM wireless charger will do no better than maintaining your original state of charge.

Another benefit of the OEM unit for me is it has an integral signal booster. I spend a lot of time in areas with poor cell service, and placing my phone on the tray generally adds at least one bar of signal strength.

FYI the CarQi unit sold on Amazon does not fit the '23 X3 30x. Its going back. I also realized that I'd lose the ability to use key card or mobile key because the pad would be covered, and could not play music from a uSM because it occupies the USB port. So I'll forgo wireless charging. The world won't end.

Thought I posted on this yesterday. Alas

The tray sucks for charging and overheats my phone (14 pro).

But the ability to use my phone as a key is pretty cool and I’ve used that multiple times when I’ve left my keys in the house or a hotel room.

And then there is this

In case anybody is interested, I now have it installed. It looks clean and works well. I'm using it with an iPhone, and there is no excessive heat. The pad is pretty grippy so the phone stays put.

I also realized that there is no benefit to getting the 15w over the 10w for iPhone users, because even through the latest iPhone 15, they only support 7.5w QI charging. You need to use a MagSafe charger to get any faster charging.
