So today I decided to not pay attention like I normally do when backing into my two car garage that was stupidly built with 2 single doors instead of 1 double door

In doing so I smashed my right sideview mirror. Does anyone have experience with difficulty in replacing this or expense of have the dealer (they have a BMW collision center where I took my old M340) replace it?

thankfully (I guess) I didn't break any wires and everything works

I Haven’t replaced one on the x3 before but usually the mirror cover is quite easy to replace, some videos on YT. May be cheaper to upgrade to carbon fiber mirror cover set though vs bmw oem gloss black replacement 🤷🏻‍♂️

yeah when I heard the crunch I was hoping it was just the top cap, but I broke the housing too

Get a $250 carbon set and call it a day, they just snap on.

I replaced the mirror caps on mine.

It’s not too hard but you have to make sure it is lined up exactly or you start breaking tiny plastic clips. I was too hasty on the drivers side and it broke some clips and eventually fell off so I’d to get a new set for just that one.

I got the CF caps from R44 performance in the UK which was recommended here. Nice quality and way cheaper than OEM.

If the actual housing is broken it shouldn’t be too hard to replace. Check YT for vids.

Ahh damn! I imagine the housing would also be an easy swap, may have to remove door card to acces but probably not a difficult replacement, but the housing is probably costly. Maybe some used oem options on eBay, maybe worth a look.

For those that may be interested it was $1700 in parts and labor to get this fixed from my local BMWCCC body shop.
