zf 8hp aluminum transmission pan upgrade

Shot in the dark here, but has anyone here upgraded their transmission pan to a aluminum one. I plan to change the "lifetime fill" fluid at every 40k. Yes ZF recommends to change it at 50-65k miles, but it won't hurt when done a tad early. Dealer quote 1700 to change but doesn't recommend it...the SA and I quote " we don't recommend it because over time the fluid will be thicker and when putting new fluid will be too thin."

I know PPE makes one but there is/was a fitment issue with the neutral screw being in the way maybe? It does add an extra quart of fluid but due to the extra size the underbody cover won't fit over it.

https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-1...xoCRx0QAvD_BwE

or from https://www.in-power.design/product-en

install vid from Kies

but can be found for cheaper on other sites. I just question the filter element...but it does come with all new hardware and a service kit is avail with new filter and bolts for future changes.

Or just stick with oem cover and filter...

I've done the trans pan upgrade research previously. The factory aluminum pan used on the M5, X5M, X3M, etcetera, part number 24119503407 is the best choice, even versus aftermarket pans. It adds capacity, cooling and still uses an easily source-able replaceable filter.

Awesome, thank you.

LMAO, oh jesus fuck, it 200 dollars more because of M fitment over stock pan. FCP euro has it listed for around 500.00 bucks and still no fluid, ok ok...is it still plastic?

ECS tuning has a picture of it, and it looks aluminum to me. Cheaper than FCP euro also.

LOL, I took the plunge and ordered the In Power pan. https://www.luxiousauto.com/products/8hp/oilpan?v=186

As suby01 would say it was tree fiddy, plus 60 bucks for a service kit, plus shipping.

Kies has just the pan for 400 but I already had a shit moment with them in a past order.

Is this all that's needed for OE upgrade (i mean retrofit with f97's) ?

Just logged in to my parts guy ETK account, and looks like my price would be $346.19 + tax.

I dislike it when you find things that I dont need but now want. Obviously keep us updated on the install. Im at 30k miles only but I will swing for this in the next 10-15k miles for sure.

I figured stock pan and filter was around the same price, but the service kit is only 60 more the next time i change fluid. To me was also getting rid of the plastic pan, but I'll post pics once it comes in.

Its being sold though MST as the distributor.

It comes with new hardware, but not a new fill plug, so part # is 24117552349 for BMW Automatic Transmission Fill Plug

Edit:the kit kit comes with a new fill plug.

Had a similar issue with my local BMW dealership. My work horse (2018 X3) has 70K and it was due for the transmission, transfer case and front / rear diff fluid service. They told me the same BS "lifetime fluid" and refused to do it.

Took it to a local indy shop with all the stuff I picked up from the dealership and they did it all. Don't listen to the dealership. Make sure you do your driveline fluids! Transfer case and diff fluids were the worse. Transmission fluid wasn't terrible but certainly needed to be done.

Let us know how the install goes. I'll do it on my m850 and cut the plastic tray to expose the aluminum. I'm guessing all the M cars have aluminum pans. It

What's unnerving is that some parts sites say the alum pan won't fit even though under the list of supported vehicles my car is supported. This will be the case for most cars I imagine that didn't come with the alum pan from the factory. I would think it'll bolt up but the splash guard likely won't fit so it'll have to be cut removed or swapped for the M splash shield

Well from what @hardparker found is that the stock pan from M5, X5M, X3M, etcetera is larger. So I assume the websites only can confirm part fitment as per BMW. They aren't going to take responsibility that the part may fit as an "upgrade".

Update: the Inground pan does come with a new fill plug, as I can't read..lol

I purchased the pan from Luxious Automotive for $350.00
https://www.luxiousauto.com/products/8hp/oilpan

and the service kit for $60.00
https://www.luxiousauto.com/products/8hp/sealkit?v=202

Shipping from Taiwan was $80.00 total and hit the US in 10 days and I should have it in hand from local PO in a day or 2.

both kits come with

Oil pan screw x 13
Filter screw x 7
Magnetic Oil Drain Plug x 1
Oil filler drain plug x 1
Filter x 1
Pan Gasket/Seal

From the pics there are no magnets mounted in the pan like the stock piece, but include a magnetic Oil Drain Plug to collect the shavings. I will take detailed pics when its here.

Interesting and ya all the M cars come with the dedicated trans cooler to help cool of the extra fluid. If you don't have a trans cooler I'm not sure the oem upgrade will be ideal.

So the pan came in and the extra service kit, will install it hopefully soon and see how it goes. Not too shabby, nice materials and the filter element is decent. The magnet not so much, but I plan on changing every 40k.

Was there a reason you didn't get the oem aluminum pan? Seems to fit and it has far larger fins for heat dissipation.
