Newbie question on ordering
Wanting to order 22 X3MC. Checked 3 local dealers non of which have allocations. Varying down payments from $1000, $2500,$3000. Dealer with the $2500 down payment said they need the non refundable deposit, purchase agreement, and finance application and "should have production number in a month or so with delivery around June or July".
New to this so looking for feedback on if this is normal. Thanks in advance! |

All deposits should be refundable on a new order car. Current production is about 90 days+. Dealer markup averaging 5-10K. Good idea to always put down at least 10% on a car as that is the depreciation as soon as you buy it. Even in todays market.

I ordered mine from a high volume dealer with no deposit required. They didn't have an allocation at that time but sourced one within a few days. I was 8 weeks from order placed to delivery.
They had a $1,500 markup, and $750 loyalty but gave me more than $10,000 over my lease payoff amount. I see this as playing with house money so I didn't mind the slight markup because I wasn't supposed to have over $10k in equity in a lease that still had 12 months left… |

No way I'm giving a deposit, much less non refundable, for an allocation they may or may not have in a month.

I agree I would not give a dealer without an allocation any deposit. They may get an allocation or they may not. If a dealer has an allocation I’d give a deposit. Any dealer can take an order and they can tell you they expect to get an allocation but they may not. Dealers that sell multiple M cars will get an allocation way before a low or no volume dealer selling M cars.
