X3 M40i owner looking to move to X3M comp
I'm in a 2020 x3 m40i fully loaded with adaptive suspension, m sport diff etc. Lease ends next year. Love the m40i. The engine and transmission are superlative and it's plenty fast. I find the handling to have too much body roll in sport dampening mode and it's just not quite as sharp as I would like. Other stablemates are an m2 comp and an e90 335d.
Of course there are differences between 2020, 2021, and 2022 x3m models. I'm pretty clear on the lci updates (and downgrades!) but between the 2020 and 2021 is the primary difference just ID 6 vs 7? What does that really entail? Of course I love the ID7 in our m40i, but I really get no benefit from the cockpit live pro. What else is different between ID 6 and 7? I've read plenty about the stiff suspension but it appears the MSS kit and or different rubber can help address that. The talk of low end turbo lag is worrisome especially since the b58tu2 is very torquey off idle. |

The other MY21 'change' was comp became an add-on package, rather than a stand-alone model. Same ID7 'lite' as in your 2020. Both 2022 LCIs now have 'full' ID7.
I moved from my 2020 M40 into a 2022 X3MC...no regrets so far. |

Thanks for the info. Given the used car prices, a new 2022 is not far off from what the used ones are going for.
I'd lean towards a 2022 x3m but I really love the Donington Gray color. I like Brooklyn gray also but it's a distant second. As for the 2022 x3m, my understanding is wireless charging is MIA, the sensatec dashboard is gone, and potentially the touch screen is gone now also? |

Realise things are a bit different in the UK, but went from a 2019 M40i to a 2022 X3M comp and no regrets at all. The ride is stiffer, but not greatly so. I prefer the full digital display, and the power is still there when needed.
The interior is certainly nicer to be in, but not hugely so. Like others, just lost wireless charging (which wasn't great to begin with), and digital key (never had it in the M40i, so no biggy).

Went from 21 M40i to 20 X3MC.
My thoughts- -stiffer (coming from adaptive suspension on m40i) -Going from idrive 7 to 6; non fullscreen apple carplay -more road noise (going from 19in on m40i to 21in on x3mc) -m40i has a slight edge on launch control, but speed tapers off after 60-80mph, compared to x3m which keeps on pushing -x3m has better bolstered seats that keeps you in place -x3m M1/M2 buttons, M HUD -13-16 mpg on x3m (mostly local NYC driving though) |

The relative lack of torque sub 3k rpm on the pre lci x3m that various people mention does not sound great. I love the b58tu with it's beefy torque off idle, especially in a heavy SUV.
Maybe the 2022 x3m with it's extra grunt will be noticeably better. |

Intuitively an SUV should have low down torque. X3m40d anyone.... |

I had a '19 X3 M40i for couple years, traded it in for '21 X3MC (pre-LCI).
It's true the M40i has more low RPM torque, but... honestly it's just not a issue in daily driving except in one scenario: you approach a stop sign or a turn or something, at low speed, and you're in 2nd gear, and then you punch it.... and nothing happens b/c you're stuck in 2nd. But once you develop muscle memory, it's easy to avoid that situation just by squeezing your left hand and downshifting to 1st. The S58's power on the highway cannot be matched by the M40i. The S58 will push you back into your seat at 100 mph. The M40i will not. This makes overtaking on the highway so much more enjoyable. The exhaust on the X3MC is awesome - at least in the US. I drive in Sports+ all the time and just listen to it. |
