Yes, look at my post from last week:

I actually picked up my new car (in-stock, not ordered) on July 24. When I asked them to update the software before delivery, my salesman blew me off and said they were rumours. I got the software updated after the fact.

Thx freshxdough

You mention cloud-based navigation, can you elaborate? I ask because I don't think my maps are updating. I have a '20 X4 M40i with the 20-07 update.

Thanks! can you check what the service report said they did and share the dealership name? This would be pretty handy since my dealership says AA is only a rumor right now and if I see anyone online saying they got it they are probably not in Canada. Its clear they have no clue what I am talking about.

I avoided mentioning anything about a software update to them, hoping they would think it was their idea. Later on in the day they called me saying they updated the software and checked that Apple CarPlay works with their phone. They asked me to check Remote 3D View functionality while I was on the phone with them, and it did so they said that the update fixed both problems and I could go pick the car back up from them.

The work was covered under warranty and I wasn't charged for anything.

Went to the dealer yesterday for the update and they told me that BMW has blocked the 2007-update because of some bugs. They couldn’t exactly tell me which bugs, but one of the problems is that the software not always update and it remains at it’s old software version. I’ll get a call when the car can be updated!

Does the 2020-07 update include the 2019-11 and 2020-03 updates or are they independent?

Rather than assume it would be incremental, it's safer to ask.

Provided the screenshot with my request to update.

The response I got was engineering confirmed the update is compatible.

Appointment was yesterday and the car is now officially Googlefied!

I got my ‘20 updated yesterday to fix my Remote 3D View not working (and it did fix it, although now my driver’s side lumbar support isn’t working). I am an iPhone user, so the AA didn’t really matter to me, but the Apple maps directions in the HUD does, and they are quite nice. It does put the street name up above the arrow when you’re within .5 miles of a turn, which is helpful. But it’s not perfect- I’ve noticed it sometimes doubles up the name (W Main Street W Main Street), but still, better than nothing. And it does tiles in the instrument cluster as well. Nothing from Google Maps or Waze either.

The HUD can get crowded with the traffic camera warnings and directions though I did have to re-pair my phone and reset my ambient lighting, which was easy enough. And I didn’t notice any difference with the BMW cloud based maps either, but I’m used to CarPlay so I probably wouldn’t use them much anyways.

So I called Parkview BMW today to inquire about a potential update for Android Auto and after consulting with the foreman or someone else at service they called me back and told me to use BMW Connect app to download an update on the phone and then apply it to the vehicle. If it fails then I have to bring it in to get it programmed.

Well, last time I heard that it was not possible to do this update remotely and only the dealer can do it, however, Parkview advised otherwise. I went and got the app on my phone, registered it etc. I can not see any updates for my vehicle in the app which kinda confirms that the dealer should apply it...

I haven't asked if it's going to be free or not, but since I picked the car this August I assume it HAS to be free, but will obviously check before I get to that point and argue if they would want to charge me.

I also heard 20.07 update has some bugs to be worked out and maybe it's still a bit early to jump the gun? I have Cockpit Pro btw.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

The way they explain with the phone to download the update is not possible for X3 vehicles.

Just because your vehicle was made in Or picked up in August does not mean that it will be free under warranty.

Programming updates by themselves (especially for a customer request) is not a warranty matter. You may need to ask for a one tike goodwill programming update for Android Auto and customer satisfaction.

Programming updates are only performed under warranty when a programming recall is performed, control unit is replaced or a part requires programming after being replaced.

I believe it should be free based on BMW's promise of Android Auto availability for Idrive 7 vehicles.

If I buy the vehicle with intent of using AAuto based on BMWs statements I would expect them to provide it for free. If that's not the case then it's false advertising. Then, again, I doubt any dealer would want to haggle with a long-time customer over a few hundred bucks. They have bigger fish to fry.

Don't underestimate their propensity to nickel and dime. ;-) That being said, I'd only had good experiences at my dealer (so far). Except for the fact that I'm 99% sure one of their techs stole the extra KN-95 masks I had in my car when it was in for minor work a couple weeks ago.
