Tailgate Removal Questions
I want to take off my tailgate trim to do some sound deadening for my sub (it rattles like crazy).
Seems pretty strait forward in newtis, but there is one step in the instructions that I do not understand and know if it is necessary. Anyone have any ideas what this is for and if it is required? The only thing I can think of is removing the switch will somehow allow the tailgate to open past the max lift point? |

If you're just removing the large trim piece on the inside of the tail gate then this is not necessary. Honestly I'm not sure what it is referring to about using a special tool. You just remove the panel with the instructions and reinstall when done.

It seems like this is to keep the hatch from opening up? I'll give it a shot without - can't imagine I need to strap it just to remove the trim. |

Using belt drags the tailgate, can protect gate's hinge(max open) from hard push damaged in the next steps. Then for human position freindly, people not so tall can lock and fix the door they want. |

This step is in the reassemble part. I guess it’s meant to not force the hinge when you are putting the trim piece back on. I suppose a hand on the top would accomplish the same. |

Being OCD, thought about ordering pair of,
81-49-2-466-613 But decided to go ahead and try without these straps, to reinstall the lower tail lid trim panel. Yes, hand on the top accomplish the same. But one lesson, if at all, is, due to sheer size and weight, i had few marginal clips that just wasn't cutting out. Refreshed those with new clips, and those made the job lot less stressful. |
