G30 Touch Climate Control Panel installed on G01

Getting a bit ahead of myself, I have already started ordering parts for my 2020 530e which is being delivered in February, and one of the parts I had ordered to retrofit was the Touch Panel Climate Controls which come with the 4-Zone climate control, which is pretty much only available on the M5 in the U.S.

When it arrived, I thought the panels and outer trim looked very similar to what was in my M40i now, so after verifying the wiring diagrams were the same, I decided to see if it would work in the X3, and sure enough, it hooked right up with no problems! No coding needed, no error codes. The trim plate is in fact identical so it was just a straight plug-n-play swap.

The only odd-looking thing about it being in the X3 is that since the 5-Series has separate fan speeds for the driver and passenger, it still shows that on the display. However, the Passenger Side fan speed and Auto button don't do anything if you press them, other than turn Sync off. Otherwise, everything else functions perfectly.

Great swap for anyone who likes the more digital look, or if you plan on retrofitting the Ambient Air/Ionizer options. The climate panels can be found online on auction sites/salvage yards for around $250 USD. Instructions for removing and installing the radio/AC control panel can be found here.

Nice! Good to know.

And.. Hey! BMW did kill the CD player in 2020. I had a 2019,and now 2020, I thought I had a CD player before (there is not one in the 2020). Almost thought I must have misremembered. Not the I miss it - I haven’t played a CD in a car for at least 15 years.

Yeah I had seen that around. Same with me, I haven't used the CD drive for music CD's in ages, but did use it frequently in my F30 and occasionally in my G01 for DVD's. Shame that it is gone but I can see why they are moving in that direction.

If you have this, can you share the part # ?

And is that retrofit of non-USA offered option of ambient air/ionizer into USA model, possible?

Thanks.

Thanks.
There isn’t a specific part number that you can find online, because the parts sites like Bimmercat and Realoem only have the part numbers for the replacement button caps, not the actual panels. They don’t really appear on the US eBay, but if you search on the German eBay (eBay.de) for “G30 Klima” you will see several come up. The specific listing I bought from is this one. The people were very helpful in verifying if I wanted the US model or ECE model, the difference being the US panel has the word “Band” instead of an icon.

As for your other question, yes, it is possible to retrofit the ambient air, however it does require you to be comfortable taking apart your car, as you have to remove the dashboard to install parts, which means you also have to remove the steering wheel, center console, and quite a bit more. On the X3, you would also have to replace the glove box, which in my months of looking I was not able to find used, and a new one from Germany costs around $360.00. I have most of the parts to retrofit it in my 530e when I get it as the G30 doesn’t require the glove box replacement, and I’ve just been slowly accumulating the parts as I find good deals online as the ionizer module and air freshener module are pricey if bought new.

I have a 2020 and it has a CD player (not that I use it though!), so did my MY19.

A bit odd, seeing as these dash consoles are identical. Maybe overstock on CD players so they're sticking them in the M vehicles lol

You have to tick CD player as a no cost option on UK vehicles now.

Yeah, maybe. Canadians are generally slow at adopting new tech lol i.e. stream via Bluetooth or Spotify

Getting slightly off topic but, the CD/DVD player in my 2019 does come in handy when watching DVD's whilst waiting for the wife when she's shopping, I always keep couple in the car :-)

Is the G11 Touch Climate Control Unit how can fit the X3 ?
Anyone experienced that ?

Like here ?
https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showp...3&postcount=22

P.S: G30 and X3 are same completely, but G11 unit has different external connectors (wiring and sockets are same)

So can i move the g11 climate control block to inside the my g30's climate control cover so it may compatible then.

Check with REALOEM for part number differences. Some other differences may be the CD port or not. And also the ceramic accents. I would say that it probably fits but I can't guarantee. G12/G30 should pretty much be the same.

Love the install. By any chance, do you have a PDF copy of the HVAC panel removal? The TIS site (link provided) has been taken down

You need to remove the center dash trim with a plastic trim tool and then you pop out the IHKA panel front the sides with a plastic trim tool.
