2019 X3 M40I Rear Cargo Floor Hydraulic assist
Hello,
Can anyone confirm that the hydraulic assist for the floor in the rear cargo area was removed for the 2019 X3's? I was at my dealer, and the 2018's have them, but not the 2019's. I'm referring to the rear cargo area, when u lift up the floor, the 2018's have a single hydraulic strut that holds the floor up, the 2019's don't. Thanks in advance |

Well, at least we did get the M steering wheel like the 2018 US version should have had. To tell you the truth, on my 18 mile ride home from picking up the M40i, I was so used to the thin wheel from the 2018, that I still wasn't used to the M wheel when I got home.
But the new wheel sure does look and feel nice. |

Wasn't this detail removed from standard spec, but only available in the "Storage package"-option? It has been discussed in earlier threads...
I can't verify, since mine is being built at the moment. (Got that storage package) /n |

Does anyone know what they replaced the strut with? In my manual it shows a cord you attach to one of the fold out hooks, but my X3 does not have the cord attached to the bottom of the rear cargo floor....

None of my million other SUVs had the strut and even though I don't open that area often, everytime I do, I think...what a nice feature... |

I took another look at the cover, and there is a place to mount the strut plate under the cover, and an attachment point for the other end of the strut on the floor under the cover. Does anyone have a part # for the strut and hardware?????
Thanks in advance!!! |

But I did notice the depressions you mention where the piston strut used to go, so did wonder at first how hard it would be to add one back on, but for us I just chose not to pursue it any further. Let us know what you find out - I think the part you are looking for is the 'gas spring, floor carpet', part #51477442678. I could be wrong, but that was the only diagram that seemed to make sense, labelled as part number 8 there: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...47#51477442678 |

#8 is the strut (about $40.00), but then you need part's 9 and 10 for just a few bucks. You would also need to buy the entire cover from the 2018 model year. That part alone is about $300. That cover from the 2018 comes with the mounting bracket already mounted to the cover. They don't sell the mount separate. Or that's according to the parts manager at my dealer. So far, on the 2019, I'm using a california duster that I always keep in the trunk to hold open the cover. Works fine. But boy, it's just so convenient to open the cover on the 2108 and have it stay up on its own. Few other things BMW cheapened out on for the 2019 compared to the 2018 is the cargo tie down fasteners (the 2 that slide along the rails in back) have a cheap and lightweight feel to them, the little case that holds the tow eye and screwdriver is a cheap all black flimsy case now. And the tow eye is made of a plain looking metal. The 2018's tow eye looked like chrome. Not a big deal, just a few things I've noticed so far. I'm sure I'll find more. Still a nice vehicle. Though the owners manual did gain 27 pages. Last edited by BobsM3Coupe; 08-31-2018 at 07:44 PM.. |

Fix For Strut
My X3 30D M was delivered yesterday without the strut ( 2019 Build).
At time of viewing and purchase (Oct 2018) the strut was fitted so provided the dealer with the option to fit the strut and and cargo tray floor or compensate me ( Australian consumer law requires consent or compensation when a a purchase is defective or changed from time of purchase - ultimately a refund can also be sought). Dealer refitted boot with 2018 tray and strut from display model - will post pics tomorrow when I pick up - yipee. Last edited by geodeo; 02-13-2019 at 12:50 AM.. |

Frankly speaking the strut is almost useless for my case. I put a subwoofer under the cargo tray and I don't foresee I need to open the tray unless something is wrong with the sub or need to show off

Cargo Support Strut
Yes, it is not present on our 2019 M40i - picked it up last Wednesday, 17 April 2019. I did not notice it was missing at the dealer but now I find they replaced it with a velcro loop that is then hooked over a nylon bag hook in the side of the compartment. It works I guess but I really liked the hydraulic assist when I saw it in video reviews. Reading some other posts here, I am guessing they had some issues with customers forcing the cover door down and either dislodging the mounts or tearing a hole in the cover door itself. The forces at play would be significant at the anchor point closest to the hinge.
