Adaptive Cruise Control -- works ok? Even in traffic?

Getting down to the nitty gritty...

Is everybody happy with the Adaptive Cruise Control? Even in heavy traffic?

ACC is important to me, and some brands do a better job of implementation than others.

So any comments from G01 X3 owners would be very helpful!

I used it on the way home from the dealer in a mixture of highway speeds from 0-60. Was great. Started and stopped for me I didn’t need to use my feet for 20 minutes.

I love mine and use it all the time. If traffic comes to a complete stop you will have to hit the gas to have the ACC resume.

You can use the cruise button on your steering wheel to resume as well. I hit the paddle up.

Used it for hours today in Friday rush. Really made a difference in maintaining composure. The art of keeping subtle contact on the bottom of the steering wheel. Thanks for the paddle tip, I’ll give it a try.

What - I didn't know this. You can use a button on the steering wheel to resume from a stand still? Which cruise button? You push the thumb paddle up? (Does it increase your cruising speed when you do that?)

Still learning... 5 months later.

Yes, paddle. Does not increase if you're resuming.

I love ACC.. Before I had ACC, I rarely used cruise control in my F25 except for long rides with no traffic. Now I feel ACC is truly useful. I've used it in busy traffic and it is great. I do pay a lot of attention to potential cars cutting in front of me, though.

Btw, if you activate it below 20 mph, traffic assist is activated and that is like cruise control for slow traffic. It sets the cruise speed to 20 and is great for slow traffic.

I use ACC on every drive.... even in city and suburban streets.
Also always use steering assist... so it’s extra support in case I get distracted in iDrive and veer out of my lane.. my bad.
In fact I’ve gotten so used to steering assist. That when I hopped into my old Honda... I found the steering really really heavy even though it’s got power steering.

ACC works great, especially in stop and go traffic. My only issue with it is that sometimes when a car in front is changing lanes and has slowed down below my set speed, the ACC will brake for that car even though it is moving over and is still quite a ways ahead of me. I usually set the follow distance at two lengths, but this still happens occasionally. So, sometimes you have to intervene when the system is being overly cautious.

Have you decided if you're getting a Bimmer or something else?

Pretty sure it will be an X3, the Q5 is a bit cheaper but I like the way the X3 drives.

Not fond of the run-flat tires or the raised floor for the spare. But there is always a compromise somewhere.

This forum has been a wonderful source of info.

You could always opt for no spare. The run-flats are actually quite good if you get the 20" wheels with Pirelli P-Zeros. I think they hold the road good in corners and they have a comfortable and compliant ride.

+1 on what people like about AAC. I've only used for a day. I really think I will drive slower now on regular commutes. The ability to just set it and have distance maintained.. much more relaxing. I wish it remembered that I preferred closest follow distance.

On a related note, I am less enthused about lane keep assist. It mostly works.. even when ACC not engaged. Rather shocking first time I drifted toward lane boundary and had wheel pull me back to center. Actually kind of liking that aspect. What I don't like is it's not very reliable. Keeps losing lane - esp. on light cement roads with white painted lines. I was hoping ACC with Lane Keep Assist would make it mostly match Tesla's performance. But alas, it keeps losing lane with little to no warning. I am hoping software updates will improve.

I've only used for a day. Anyone else having poor luck with Lane Keep Assist?

Not from a G01, but I used it constantly in my Audi S3 in the city and country. Given that was a 2013 model I'm hoping for the next level in my 2018 M40i.

same here...I would not own another vehicle with ACC after using it in the M40i.

I use it on the highway all the time and around some parts of town.

Tested it in stop and go town traffic.......worked 100%...no pieces on the road.

BUY IT !

Just a note..... I think with the lane keeping, when the lines turn gray but it seems to still be functioning, that it is relying only on the car in front via the forward radar?

Yeah I noticed this as well.... the lines go grey but it still keeps within lane.
The steering wheel icon is STILL green which is the key indicator.

You know it’s not steering if the steering wheel icon goes grey.

Yes, when the lines are grey and the wheel is green, it means it's following the car in front of you. It states that clearly in the manual if you all chose to read it. lol

The manual is also available in your iDrive too.

Better for all to see here in my opinion.
