E90 Anti Trap Failure - please help!

The car is an 07 e90 335i with iDrive.

Rear driver side window works. Goes up and down but only in small increments (i.e. Couple inches at a time). All other Windows work fine.

I have done a fair bit of research and feel I've done almost all the resets suggested. Below is what I've tried and all have failed.

- while in the iDrive error message, move window all the way down (tried from driver door or the actual door), hold for 17 seconds exactly (ignition on/or while engine running), release and immediately push button for window up. Window only goes the first increment (ie ~2 inches)
- repeated the above but tried with 23 seconds and 30 seconds

I desperately need help stopping the dam chime that's going to cause me to lose it!!

Anyone with further suggestions?

sounds like your car forgot the open and closed settings for the window.

When I replaced my regulator what i did to calibrate my window was as follows:

1. Do this on that window's window switch not the one on the driver's door. Stick the key in ignition and push the start/stop button once without stepping on the brake. This will turn on all the electronics/dash lights/ etc

2. roll the window all the way down (yes it will take a while cause it only moves in small 1 inch increments.

3. Once at the very bottom hold down the switch until you see a window failure appear on the dash. Could be up to a minute to show. I forget exactly what it says but its specifically related to window failures.

4. Roll the window to the top (again it should only do it in small 1 inch increments.

5. Once at the very top hold the window switch in the "up" position until you see the same error show up on the dash.

6. Turn the car off completely by removing the key. Start the car normally and use that window's switch to roll it down and up.

7. If this doesn't work most likely you will need to replace the window regulator as it is a well known and well documented problem on these cars. Once you replace the regulator you will have to run thru this setup procedure again. This is so the car knows what the top and bottom position is for each window.

8. If even replacing the regulator doesn't fix the issue its time to take your car to an exorcist. Or an indy mechanic i supposed would work too.

Thanks! Fingers crossed this is the fix

Sadly didn't work. Yet another visit to the shop.

Feels like I was just there (cause I f'ing was) when the trunk/rear lights all of a sudden failed (f'ing faulty wire harness)!

Time to sell and update

Kept trying this morning for another 30+ minutes and no such luck.

A year ago or so, this same window was temperamental. I recall while driving rolling the window down (before the first incremental stop) and rolling up. All of a sudden, no message.

Not sure if I simply got lucky or does this sound like another reset procedure? I've tried since and cannot repeat.

Do you have access to a EDIBAS cable, laptop and wifi connection? If you do, I can help you reset it via software remotely. It's fairly easy with INPA. I do it for customers all the time as an extra while performing coding.

Hey CDNBimmer,

Did you ever get this resolved? I am experiencing the same issue. I tried re-initializing the window and still get the anti trap function message.

I ended up having to replace the window motor. At that time it was a 250 part and about 200 in labor at my Indy shop. That's CAD so closer to ~320 USD.

If you own this car long enough the window regulators will have to be replaced a very common failure. Follow the procedures on the third post above. It's not easy it won't work so many times but when it finally takes alas success

I had the same issue with my 2007 328XI. Both rear regulators were replaced before I bought it. I first replaced one side with a complete reg and motor I bought used. That fixed one side. Then I bought a new motor on eBay and that fixed the other side. Motors were the problem. I have no idea what goes wrong in them. I even took one apart and could find nothing wrong.
