Wow... Now My Cars Fan Is Acting Up
HEY GUYS
if you recall, im that guy with what we thought was the water pump issue that ended up being a repalced thermostat now... when idling to pick up food at mcdonalds, my car's fan will go SUPER DUPER FAST... then slow down.... then go SUPER DUPER FAST... then slow down and it might go away for a while the itll do it again? what could this be is this related to my car saying that the engine is overheating, then when i pull over for 2 minutes, the overheating thing goes away |

Mines started doing the exact same thing this evening. I replaced the thermostat but didn't change a thing. Put the Bav cable and it doesn't show any faults. Mine blows hot air all day. Did the water pump test and after the 12 min it was still running up to 23 min later. Finally just shut the car off. The pump didn't sound to good either.

Water pump my friend. Exact same thing happened to me last month. A week later the same thing happened to another forum member and it was also his pump.
If I remember correctly on your last thread someone said that the mechanic not changing the water pump was a mistake and it'd fail soon. No big deal... Not your fault. But I'd take it up with your mechanic and save something on labour |

Put it to run the bleed cycle.. Ignition on fan speed on lowest setting, both driver and passenger set to max heat. Press accelerator pedal all the way down for 12 seconds. The pump should start working. Pump may be on it's last leg so this won't be the best test as the cycle has the pump running at various speeds. You need to have the car scanned for codes man; preferable with a scan tool that can detect BMW specific codes. That should tell you point blank.

Save yourself time and money and headache.. I'm surprised you didn't replace everything in the first place.. Everybody does..
This subject is very famous and everytime someone comes here with the same problem it's always the same fix and 90% of the forum has gone through it. So go buy a WP and tell you indy to replace it. A simple search in the forum will show how many threads are her about it.. |

Even if it's the fan, which you will know if it still goes crazy after replacing the ladder, you didn't just waist $500.00 on the three pieces mentioned above. It's gonna go bad between 75 and 100k 90% of the time. Very few make it past 100k much less 125k. While you are in there, you should just flush and replace the coolant with new I think you can buy a fan insert instead of forking over $500.00 for fan shroud and fan. If that's the case, you might be looking at $100.00. Mishimoto makes several after market fans for the e90, that insert into the shroud. |

I just replaced mine at 140k miles. It had never been replaced... There wasn't anything wrong with it, I just did it as preventive maintenance. This thing was a ticking time bomb and didn't want to stay stranded somewhere and have to pay a tow truck. It really isn't that hard to replace... Took me about 3 hours.
