Help! Drivetrain malfunction car won't start!
Hi All,
I purchased my 2011 x3 35I a few months ago. Yesterday I was driving and got a drivetrain malfunction error reduced power. I turned the car off to see if it would reset and it did not start again. It cranks and on occasion sputters but does not start. Same as in this video: I have search all over the web and it appeared to be the hpfp (I was also having a rough idle issue that seemed to be getting worse). I replaced the hpfp today and still it will not start! I am trying to locate a code reader to see what codes it displays. Previous maintenance included new plugs and coils. Any ideas? Car has 78k so it is out of warranty :/ |

Plugs are new (2 months old) and charge pipes have been checked. Plus I do not believe charge pipes would not cause a no start condition.
I have also disconnected the battery twice for extended periods of time to reset the computer and the result is the same. |

Spoke to soon :/ the module was bad but there is another issue causing it to blow.
I put in the new module in and it started a hand full of times but was still giving a chassis malfunction error with the engine light on, abs light, and trac light on a message saying drive slowly to a service center. After a hand full of times it blew the module and would not start again same as the video above. I took apart the old module by prying it open and replace a blown fuse which repaired the unit! How ever as soon as I hook it up and try to start the car it blows the first fuse there is 6 fuses on the board. The plug with the short seems to lead right into the DME. Still trying to locate a code reader. |

Integrated supply module was a recall for my X3 35i 2011.
ironically, after dealership replacing it back in january 2015, my car failed to start a month later, didnt get any error though. just sputters and fails to start. dealership found soots in spark plugs and then fix it. just sharing some thoughts, sorry if it's useless info. |

Does this wire go to chassis ground?
If so there may be an issue where a ground strap at another location has come loose or been disconnected an the current path for everything is going through that wire. I am also unsure if those are relays on that module. If so you could take one off at a time and see if it stops blowing the fuse. That way you could isolate a system .

Thanks for the reply guy's. The wire leading into the module is power.
Here are some pics of what I am dealing with, the first 15amp fuse is the one that keeps blowing. Still no progress figuring this out. |

Integrated supply module fuse blowing
rcsup1, I know the original post is over 3 years old, but were you able to figure out what was causing the 1st 15 amp fuse to blow on your x3 integrated supply module? I am having the same problem. The car will crank but will not start.

Drivetrain malfunction warning/Chassis stabilization ??
First time poster on this site but wanted to see if I can get any more info on anyone else getting the Drivetrain malfunction warning/Chassis stabilization ?
Just spent close to $800 for 5 hours for the BMW dealership to figure it out! Seems like a scam? |

If you spent $800, you should have some information from the dealership. What codes did the car throw? What did they say? |

I have the same error messages - Drivetrain malfunction warning/Chassis stabilization, most recently even with a Transmission malfunction/overheated message. I am taking the car to BMW next monday. Worried I would also spent thousand $ on this...Do you have any updates from BMW?

Got the error yesterday as well, popped up on my screen as "Drivetrain malfunction Cont. driving available Consult service centre". Reset after I restarted the engine and doesn't show up any more, I recently got an oil change- is this something to be worried about?
The mofos at the dealership wanted $140 to check the error code and BMW doesn't cover drivetrain over 50k miles, HELP!!! 2016 X3 XDrive28i, 57000 miles |

Drivetrain malfunctions over and over x 1+ year??
New to this forum, and I know this thread is pretty old... but does anyone have guidance for these drivetrain malfunctions, specifically on a x28 (4 cylinder turbo) X3 from 2013? No issues with starting, doesn't usually come on until I hit about 70mph for a few minutes.
I've had the absolute worst year with my car. Have spent well over $1000, multiple times having brought it to the dealership, each time the service rep randomly blames the Drivetrain malfunction on something else, only to have the alarm light come back on by the time I get home. Making everything worse- this local (Corpus Christi) BMW dealership is the worst of any car dealership I have ever dealt with before. It seems like every time I go there, its completely new staff (never a good sign), management is so apathetic.. current service manager can't be much older than mid-20s and has 2 months of experience. He had the nerve to claim that I must have coincidentally gotten yet another NEW and DIFFERENT issue within the drive home. I've addressed everything from my wheel speed sensors to a faulty vacuum line. I actually do trust one of the mechanics there that I met today, but I'm sick of having to waste money on what the manager recommends, only for it to do NOTHING to fix the problem. Is this a common problem with this generation of X3s? I will try to get a list of the specific codes tomorrow when I drop it back off, but I've told them that I refuse to pay anymore until I've driven the car for a day without the alarm coming on. Any help would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks!! |

This is the sort of thread that make car forums maddening. Several people desperate for help, some of whom promise to report back after finding out what the problem is, but not one actually does. Maybe forum accounts ought to link to your bank account, and if you don't report back on the solution to a problem you asked for help about you have to make a $1,000 involuntary donation to charity.

I'm the OP. What I did fixed my issue but I do not recommend it which is why I did not report back. I have been PM'd and responded to all that have inquired.
PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK. I still do not know what caused the issue to begin with. What I did is cut the module as you see in the above picture and replaced the 15amp fuse that kept blowing with a 30amp. It was either going to resolve my issue or lead me to the next problem area by causing a short, a risk I was willing to take out frustration.

hes implying that he never had another problem after the 15 to 30amp swap. but that's NOT a real fix.. hence his warning.
