March Factory shutdown?
I read in one of the threads that the factory shuts down for a short while in March to switch to the next years production. My car is about to be built (or not, who knows). So my question is will that reset involve any changes to the car? If there are natural minor annual upgrades outside full LCI type changes then it must be better to have one built in April rather than March??

This is the first I've heard of this .. My delayed car is due to be built this week..
Can anyone confirm/deny that the factory shuts down if so for how long and what build weeks ?

i can ask him next time i see him if he has any inside scoop on how long a switch over takes, I did find this where it shows the dates for all the starts of production for all the bmw models. shows the x3 2016 starts production 4/15 but as far as how long they are down to switch over i haven't a clue i don't see it as being very long since they'd be losing money with the production line down. I would think since there's not likely to be major changes they won't suffer any down time, but who knows these things :P

okay i asked him, he said that they don't shut down and that they will still run 2015 and 2016 on the same line that they just run the 2015 till they run out of the orders but that they plan everything so well that there is no down time, the only time the plant shuts down is for a week around 4th of july and about 2 weeks for end of year holidays.

We took delivery of our X3 in March of 2011 at the Spartanburg plant. If you take a plant tour and see the just-in-time parts delivery and super-automated assembly process, you'll understand why any kind of shutdown would be avoided. Even a few hours is big money. They seem able to modify the supply chain and assembly process on the fly and maintain the equipment with very few delays.
