Question Took The Plunge - Now A Question

Hello, all. Last Saturday, I ordered a Titanium Silver, 6-speed 330i with black leather, aluminum trim, PP, SP, CWP, Navigation and the Sirius satellite radio. As I live in the UK, it should be a bit shorter time frame to get it (hopefully?) - but I have a sneaky suspicion it'll be longer than I want!!

I'm selling my current car, a 2003 Z4 3.0i and before I had the Zed I owned a 2001 330Ci. I traded the 330Ci in on the Zed (impulsively) and I'm selling the Zed because I've realized I am not a convertible person. In fact, I regret getting rid of the 330Ci and I wish I had it back. Very nice car with smooth lines - lovely coupe! This leads me to ask this question: Anyone else moved from a two door coupe to a four door sedan? And, if you did move, do/did you regret it?

I never thought I wanted a four door. As a single female (no kids), and a "who needs 'em?" attitude about passengers, the fact that access is easier for passengers is not a reason to buy the four-door (well, other than the fact they won't scuff the back of the seats so much getting in and out). However, I've convinced myself that having four doors makes more sense, mainly for hauling stuff around (you wouldn't be surprised at what does NOT fit in a Zed!). In other words - it's more practical. Yeah, that's it.

I guess what I am looking for is reassurances that I haven't goofed by not holding out for the coupe. It's just that I really, really, really like the looks of the E90 and wanted it - four doors and all! It's just that, well, a four door seems so … so … grown-up!

Anyway … your thoughts/experiences?

Mickey

P.S. Great forum! I've been browsing it all weekend (man, the wait is going to be long!).

I took the same plunge after deciding not to wait for the coupe. Same color combo too!

You won't regret getting the E90 sedan.

However... as always these choices depend on your own tastes and needs and budget. Being single, the coupe may make more sense for you.

I have a 330i in TiAg with Black leather as well....ABSOLUTELY NO REGRETS. I hade an E46 325i coupe and while I loved that car tremendously...I love this 4 door sedan even more.

IMO the E90 sedan looks far better (ie sporty) than the E46 sedan.

I don't think Sirius is an option in the UK?
How have you managed to choose that Mickey? It isn't available as on option on the BMW UK website.

I was in the same position as you, having an old 318is coupe, before getting the 330iSE saloon.
I wondered about holding on till the coupe same out, but I just couldn't wait. I don't regret getting the saloon at all- it's an absolute peach!
I loved the frameless windows in the coupe & thought the ones in the saloon would make it look poor in comparison- how wrong I was! It just looks fantastic from any angle. In fact, the sound of the saloon's doors closing is just great.
I don't think you'll be disappointed at all.
I still drive the new car like a coupe, it really feels great. There seems to be a ton more space in the back, but it makes no difference to me, because there's usually only me or me & the wife in the car anyway.
I thought the 4-door seemed a whole lot more 'grown-up' as well, but wait till you drive it- nothing really grown up about driving round the same large roundabouts and turns at 60mph instead of 50!

I was waiting 3 months to get hold of my e90 from Germany, & it felt like forever. The day I got it was heavenly!

I don't regret getting the saloon instead of the coupe in any way whatsoever. I'm glad I did.

Here's a few pics from the TiAg & interior pictures thread to keep you going! :

Ugh why? If I were single, no kids (oh those were the days) and no intentions of hauling passengers I'd be driving something a lot sexier than an e90 4 door. Either sexier or cheaper, one of the two.

Ooooh, especially since you can get Alfa's in the UK. Brera no questions asked. Who cares if it's at the dealer 3 days out of every 4, looks cool, sounds great, don't know about how it handles though. "Saloons" are for us breeders.

Me too Mickey, for pretty much the same reason's you stated in your post. I sold my 316i Coupe and bought a 330i with Sports Package, Parking Assist, & Seat Heaters.

When the E90 just came out, the design caught me off guard to the point that the coupe configuration did'nt matter anymore. My friends are happy they have easy access to their appropriate seats. It's easier to stash my shopping bags, groceries, etc in the back seat.

I used to be a strictly coupe guy, but now I have a sports sedan with sleek sporty lines even the E46 coupe would be envious of. And so, i'm pretty happy with my choice.

I know i'll still go take a look at the E90 coupe when it arrives at the BMW dealership nearby

You sure you´re in the UK mate? Sirius just expanded to Canada but has no plans for across the pond.

Yup. Last week I was in a London pub drinking a few pints on my 21st birthday. Woke up this morning, I have no hair, I'm actually 42 and driving on the wrong side of the road. Seems I now have a wife, kid, dog, season tickets to the Ravens and a Lawn Tractor.

I still won't go near that Budweiser though!

It goes fast young 'uns. Enjoy it while you can.

The 4-door looks like a coupe (Or the coupe like a 4 door missing 2 doors) anyways, it is sporty enough and you get the added practicality without the increased insurance cost... That's only a win-win situation!

I went from an '02 E46 Coupe to the E90 Sedan and regret every minute of it and you will too. Although it's too late for me, fortunately for you I still have my E46 and I will sell it to you cheap. It's just sitting in my garage right now, rotting away.

Hehe, congrats on your new E90, it is a great choice, who cares if it has 2 doors or 4, it's still sporty car.

[BTW I wasn't kidding if you want to buy my old car. I've been trying to sell it for months, but for some reason nobody here wants it!]

I'll bet that you'll love the sedan, until the day the coupe comes out. Practicality is a great point only if you need it. Young and single, you don't need practicality.
Sedan or coupe, I'm jealous anyway.

Thanks for the quick responses.

First, let me fix an ommission on my part. Yes, I did order/get the Sirius radio option, but that is because I am an American servicemember (USAF/25+ yrs) stationed here in the UK and the car [is going to] meets U.S. specifications. I am ordering through the military car sales program. Since I have to leave the UK eventually (sigh), I decided to fully configure the car as if I were in the States.

Besides, right now, on Sirius' web page, they are offering:

"Subscribe for the lifetime of your radio! Pay $499.99 once, forget about bills altogether, and enjoy SIRIUS for a long, long time to come. Plus, you can now transfer your lifetime subscription to three additional radios for $75 per radio. (Offer ends July 31, 2006.)"

That figures out to about 39 months, which is shorter than I plan on owning the car. To me, it's a no-brainer.

I appreciate the comments about two versus four doors, even though I know it's all a matter of opinion. I could have waited until the coupe came out, but I really like the looks/lines of the 330i. I don't think I'll regret it - especially when I remember how much of a pain it was to clean the back seats in the coupe, not to mention getting stuff in and out over the front seats.

Oh, but I so don't appreciate all those pictures, Vivekk! It's bad enough I am already sickening the folk at work with my "When I get my new car…" stories. And, that I have looked at every Google Image of a silver 330i with black/aluminum interior. And configured the car on the BMW site many times. No, you HAD to show me more!! As I read from someone on this forum before, back in November (yes, I've looked at posts that far back), "My only regret in buying a 330 was that I ordered one; the wait is torture." True!

Again, thanks for the comments and the welcome. I look forward to more discussions.

This is my first four-door, and I have no regrets at all. I don't think it is less sporty just because it has two more doors. As far as the wait, yes, it is absolute torture. But... It will all be worth it the minute you lay your eyes on your new baby for the first time, I promise! Now, it has only been three weeks but the wait is long-forgotten and I'm still thrilled every time I walk out to my car which is configured exactly the way I wanted it.
